Over 116,000 (and growing) sign Olbermann petition and reporters speak out against suspension
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 08:29 PM by sabrina 1
MSNB has started a movement. Tens of thousands have already signed a petition demanding that Keith be restored.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adam-green/50000-sign-petition-for-o_b_779790.html

As Danny Shea, Sam Stein, and others are well documenting, Keith Olbermann's suspension is getting a ton of attention. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is organizing the public to do something about it. In just a few hours, 55,000, 75,000, 90,000 MSNBC viewers signed our petition saying:

"Keith Olbermann made your network a success. If you want your viewers to keep tuning in to MSNBC, put Keith back on TV now!" Sign here - keep the momentum going!.

This is a no-brainer. Keith was one of the only people speaking truth to power for years -- and we need to speak truth to power now, for him. Sign the petition today -- then tell your friends.

The numbers are growing by the minute. You can sign the petition HERE

Edited to update the numbers, which is hard to do as they keep growing. But from the petition site, the latest update:

116,354 people have taken action—93% of our goal of 125,000!

That was fast, I hope they keep it going!

2. Thanks, I'm going to try to edit the title as the numbers are growing
rapidly.

I think MSNBC started a firestorm they probably didn't expect.

I don't bother with petitions either as I didn't think they mattered much.

But they DO seem to affect the media. I remember sending around the petition for Colbert the night of the Annual press dinner, when it was thought he was going to be fired. That petition grew fast also, although not as fast as this. And it definitely took a lot of people by surprise.

Thanks for signing, I have also.

They really didn't get his humor, and it did look like he might be fired. But the overwhelming response was impressive and the rest is history lol!

about this. As they say at the petition site, Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough also donate to politicians.

They treat people like children, Keith was supposed to ask 'mommy' who he could give his money to.

But even that was a lie, as their policy states that is the case ONLY IF there is a conflict of interest.

There was no conflict of interest. Everyone already knows Keith's political views and what party he supports.

The stupidity is sickening and seeing that weasel Griffith being defended on this board makes me even more sick.

:kick: to get Keith back on the air. And FIRE GRIFFIN.

At a time when the barbarians are banging down the last gates of sanity, you chose to silence one of the few who stands up to them.

We affectionately call him "Doberman" because he takes a bite out of their pompous derrieres.

34. Yes, I've been on that for a long time. Calling Congress, emailing
supporting candidates who support building jobs.

You mean you've been sitting around doing nothing about jobs, you've missed the calls to action all this time? But you do have time to try to stop others who actually do something about what they believe in.

Would you like me to give you some numbers to call about job creation, about stopping sending jobs overseas eg? I'll be happy to do so.

You're welcome. At least I feel like we are doing something. I called that weasel, Griffin, today before he stopped answering calls. I was polite, but gave them an earful.

This reminds me of the Colbert petition after his appearance at the annual press dinner. Since Bush thought he was being attacked by an actual journalist, everyone expected Colbert to be fired. So, someone set up a petition and it got so many signatures I guess they felt it wouldn't be a good idea to fire him. Lol!

62. I can understand how he feels, but someone should remind
him of at least two other petitions that actually worked, with phone calls and threats of boycotts also of course.

One was Colbert who had so upset the Bush crowd there was a fear his new show was going to be cancelled. A petition circulated quickly to try to inform those in charge that he was a comedian etc. etc. Anyhow, he is still there.

Then when Kerry was running for office, there was phony 'documentary' that was about to shown by some rightwing Media people. Again, a petition was cirulated, calls to advertisers were made, the Rightwingers were arrogant at first, laughed at liberals trying to 'protect' Kerry. Until the stock in their corp began to plummet. That was fun to watch.

So they caved but I don't know if they ever recovered from the freefall of their stocks.

People Power, it works! Mike is probably depressed.

65. That's looking very possible. Thousands are signing up
every hour. I bet Griffin didn't expect the reaction he's getting.

I think some other networks might want to approach Keith and Rachel right now. Rachel will probably be next, just like Banfield, if she continues to speak out against Republicans now that they are back in power. I'm sure the networks have heard from them already.

Can't let it happen again. But they have the money and control so it will be hard. We'll have to be relentless or all liberal voices will once again disappear.

72. 234,390 now.
As I said upthread, they might as well bite the bullet and go all out for 1,000,000.

79. Hmm... I keep checking the petition site...
...at http://act.boldprogressives.org/sign/petition_olbermann">http://act.boldprogressives.org/sign/petition_olbermann to check the progress.

Were you getting emailed updates or something?

80. No, I was checking the petition site also. But now it takes me
to the page where you vote. And I can't get past that, so I voted again, which I thought would say 'you've already voted' but it didn't. Still didn't get me to the updates though.

Just checked your link, and it takes me to the voting page. No updates.

I am getting emails but not actual numbers. Good you can still check though :-)

81. Hmm. For me, that's the same page.
There's a form on the right side where you can sign the petition; underneath that form is the status info.

I clicked my link again just now, and the page loaded without the status, but when I refreshed, it showed up.

And in the last 15 minutes or so... the goal has been upped to 300,000! Of course, we're already 97% there! :D

"293,767 people have taken action—97% of our goal of 300,000!"

Thanks for the link, that's the one I was using but for some reason, the updates just weren't there anymore, just the vote box.

Nearly 300,000 though, that was impressive!

95. You're welcome,
Thank you for helping to keep it going. And thanks for the update, the glitch on the petition site never resolved itself for me.

I guess they can stop now LOl! But wow, over 300,000 in what, less than 48 hours?

I love that organization. They do some really good work. I do get their emails. They are very active, instead of just talking they do things!

Anyhow, it was fun doing this with you and others, but mission accomplished, on to the next! Lol!

Voting every day with dollars might make our votes every two years go a lot farther.

105% of our goal of 300,000!

If he has not been reinstated, I think this would have made it to one million. People are still voting even though the goal has been accomplished.
