I've been here since 2004 and I still haven't figured it out. I've tried just about everything, but it won't appear.

The pic has to be hosted online somewhere (like PhotoBucket for example, but anywhere) and then just type the pic's web url into the sigline window (no html code with it or anything, just the url). That's how mine is anyway.

18. I'm a technophobe. How do I upload the picture as an avatar?

I typed the entire URL address into the space for changing avatars and that didn't work. I apologize for being a "moran," but help!

23. RIGHT-CLICK on the avatar of your choice and SAVE it on your desktop

(or somewhere else easy to find) or CLICK and DRAG the icon to your desktop.

CLICK on 'Options' in the icon menu at the top of any DU page...

CLICK on 'Edit Your Profile' in the User options menu.

In the 'Avatar Image' area, CLICK on the 'upload' link.

When you do this, Step 1. says to CLICK on the 'Browser' button, but it might also say 'Choose File.'

When you CLICK on that, CHOOSE the avatar you saved from your desktop, or wherever you saved it.

Be sure and MARK it as a JPEG image file in Step 2. (I think all of these in my post are jpeg's.)

CLICK 'Upload File!'

You will be informed that you have added personal/157031.jpg and that you are only allowed one of those personal files.

That should do it. Go check your posts and see if the avatar is showing up.
