Let's look at KO fuss through lens of Means, Motive, Opportunity
That is how a detective works a case, and it might give us some insight.

Who had the means to discover and report the donations?

Who had the motive to discover and report the donations?

Who had the opportunity to discover and report the donations?

The simplest answer would be that the reporter for Politico is a whiz kid who did this on her own volition, looking at the donations for any celeb donor who might make a good story. She had the means, the motive, and the opportunity.

Is the simplest answer the correct answer? We must be mindful of the history of dirty tricks against journalists who hurt the Republicans. Dan Rather comes immediately to mind. There were many others, prior to Dan and after him. Republican operatives certainly had the motive. Taking down Keith would be almost as good for them as taking down Dan Rather was. (Dan, for those who don't know, had been a thorn in their side his whole career.)

Can we advance this line of inquiry?

1. Typical repuke dirty-trick strategy....especially the part about condemning Dems for doing what the
repukes have been doing for decades. As usual: IOKIYAR

6. IMO Keith was ratted out by one of his colleagues at MSNBC
Edited on Sat Nov-06-10 01:37 PM by tularetom
I believe there is a lot of animosity between the "old line" beltway political journalists (like tweety) and the new kids like Olberman and Rachel Maddow.

And many of the old hacks (like tweety) are envious of KO's star status as MSNBC's ratings leader.

And the tesnion between the old hacks (like tweety) and KO is apparent every time they do an election night show together.

And some of the on air "talent" at MSNBC remind me of the kid in the 6th grade who is always running to the teacher to report misbehavior by one of his classmates (like tweety).

Of course I have no idea which MSNBC "personality" would stoop to such an act.

7. I thought about Tweety and motive
Tweety has been overshadowed by KO, big time. It gets worse as it goes along. And I can tell that it rankles Tweety to be the old-timer who is not hip, not literate in the new methods of communication.

Anyone who wants KO's time slot would have motive, too.

8. Somebody pointed out in another thread that Tweety stabbed Phil Donohue in the back
Ran to the MSNBC suits to get Donohue kicked off the network,

So it isn't like he doesn't have a history of chickeshit behavior.

9. none of that matters, if he broke the rules.
that's what this is about, according to msnbc. it's not about the exposure of the action, it's about the action. keith could well have been testing his limits. personally, i think it's a ratings stunt. do you really think msnbc would allow rachel and the rest to report on this and express their support if it wasn't a setup?
