Outsourcing has hurt the US: Obama
US President said backoffices in India have hurt US jobs; signs deals

Mumbai: In his first reference to outsourcing, US President Barack Obama on Saturday said US companies setting up back offices in India have hurt the United States. He hinted that the move has cost many jobs in India.

Speaking to top CEO here at the US-India Business Council, Obama said job creation is a two-way street.

In this regard, Obama said there is a need to further trade relationships. "The US has helped India and India has helped US", he said announcing 200 deals worth over $10 billion that will generate over 50,000 jobs in the US.

"Several landmark deals have been done shortly before my arrival here. Boeing is going to sell dozens of planes to India and GE is going to sell hundreds of electric engines.

The deals are worth USD 10 billion and will create more than 50,000 jobs in the US," he said.

Just before the address at USIBC, Reliance Power announced power equipment deal for 2,400 MW plants from GE and low-cost carrier Spicejet announced a deal to buy 33 new generation 737 aircraft from Boeing.

On the occasion, Obama said this was barely scratching the potential and dubbed India as the market of the future where Washington was willing to step up investments, provided uncertainties relating to tariffs and other barriers were taken care of.

2. Time to don the custome of a working class Joe/Josephine. Mingle around with the lowly commoners

Mr. President. You must not be listening very well to those weekly letters you claim to be reading. We really do beg to differ with your opinion. You said you KNEW where WE were coming from.

So go shop @ Walmart grab some commoner duds and have a seat next to us in the subways, on the buses, go on a trip to the grocery store with us, to the unemployment and welfare offices, check out a job fair where 30,000 people stand in line, sit next to us while we open our bills from mortgage companies, electric companies, see how it feels to walk into a doctor's office or emergency room when you know you don't even have $1 in your pocket, look at the prescription we're given from that doctor's office, take it to a pharmacy when you may have had enough for the doctor but ran short to pay for the prescription.

It'll will be a sobering, life altering experience President Obama and I think you are very much overdue on the experience.

I'm sorry OP but 50,000 jobs isn't going to cut it when 350,000 jobs have been lost and will continue to be lost due to outsourcing.

3. Yeah, why bother somewhere. It's better to wallow in cynicism. It allows for an air of superiority.

Here is what else he said.

The president, who on Thursday portrayed his trip as primarily economic, said ties with India constituted a "defining and indispensable" partnership of this century and asked businesses from the two countries to look at each other as partners and not threats.

"It is a dynamic two-way relationship which is creating jobs, growth and higher living standards in both our countries and that is the truth"

Quit pretending it's anything other than what it is. In 2008 Obama pretended to be fiercely against offshoring. The minute he got into the White House, he nominated the most notorious offshore outsourcing Senate advocate, Judd Gregg, for Commerce Secretary.

Manufacturing towns are increasingly becoming ghost towns but don't let it bother you how many Americans can no longer lodge or feed their families.

9. Wow, almost word for word what Clinton said when he signed NAFTA.
Substitute Mexico for India and you get the exact same load of baloney Clinton used to sell NAFTA.
