About unemployment
It was at 9.6 last Spring. It is still at 9.6. And *that* is a vast improvement, I hope no one has forgotten the job losses that ran to near a million a *month* when the lesser bush was on the throne.

We surely need to do better, but the trend is clearly in the right direction. I happen to think there is much more Obama can do, but I am not complaining about where we are right now.

1. But does that number count those who have fallen off the rolls?
I don't think so.

2. Forget for a moment the specific numbers . . . .
. . . the fact is that we are far better off now than we were at the end of the last regime's reign of terror. Add to that the trends, which are all in the right direction.

3. The way this has always been counted has not changed.
The right wing likes to change metrics when it suits them.

Unemployment was estimated to be about 6.5% in Jan 2009, it was actually already ~7.4, and falling way faster than anyone knew. It was almost 8.6% when the stimulus passed at the end of Feb 2009.

Which means that metric is now just about 1% higher than when Obama took office. His actions, stopped the free fall.

Only way to argue that is to switch the metrics.

4. Are you not human?
How could any sensitive, empathetic, person not complain about 9.6 percent unemployment and increasing long term unemployment?

How could stagnant unemployment be called in any way, shape or form "a vast improvement"?

You are either mean-spirited or not human to suggest such things in light of all the suffering that is going on in this country.

5. Gaining 100,000 jobs a month is vastly better than losing 750,000 a month
100,000 doesn't keep up with the growth of the numbers in the labor pool, but it beats the shit out of losing three quarters of a million a month.

I am neither mean spirited nor inhuman.
