PROPOSAL 'House Watch', a DU Topics: House of Representatives Forum
Edited on Sat Nov-06-10 06:49 PM by denem
I am suggesting that the DU Topics: Congress Forum be succeeded by separate forums for the House and the Senate.

'House Watch'

At present the DU Topics: Congress forum is relatively inactive.

This term there could be a lot of productive work devoted to watching the House of Representatives. Still born resolutions, aimed at the base, will be buried by the Senate without debate. Dead Tea Party resolutions will be lionized by the Right without much serious evaluation.

No doubt a get-out-jail card for the failure of that agenda will be played later on along the lines of "Your loyal Representatives stayed true to the Constitution and conservative principles but were shamelessly obstructed by the Senate, and the White House"

It is important, in my view, to set aside an place to tag, examine and evaluate House Resolutions, coming as they will, from an incoherent inconsistent, reality challenged band of ideologues and opportunists. Equally, over time, nailing down a record of what this House actually stands for may become useful in the lead up to 2012.

If the 'thwarted' resolutions turn out, as expected, to be unworkable and unsaleable, it may well be possible to play offense, rather than a typical Democratic defensive effort, countering shill charges of' 'obstruction, and ignoring the will of the American people'.

A 'Know your Republican' House of Representatives group, could be more than useful, and may attract more interest from DU members.

3. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Also, I was thinking how we bug Democrats in Congress, which is fine. But we rarely call or email Republicans so they tend to live in a bubble, only hearing from the right.

I think they should start hearing from the rest of the people. Eg, and this would fit in with your proposal, if they start 'investigations'. we could flood with them calls demanding they focus on issues. Unless of course they are investigating War Crimes!!

Anyhow, it is a good idea .....

6. Recommended
We all definitely need to keep a closer eye on the "lower" House for the next two years.
