GOP senator: Consider neutering Iran's 'ability to wage war'

Halifax, Nova Scotia (CNN) -- A leading Senate Republican voice on defense issues said Saturday the United States should consider neutering Iran's navy and air force if Tehran does not halt its nuclear program.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, speaking at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada, told reporters that there will come a point where Iran's nuclear program will reach the state that a conventional limited air strike "won't take them out."

"We're probably even past that point," he said.

"Instead of a surgical strike on their nuclear infrastructure, I think we're to the point now that you have to really neuter the regime's ability to wage war against us and our allies. And that's a different military scenario. It's not a ground invasion but it certainly destroys the ability of the regime to strike back."

The United States believes Iran's nuclear program is aimed at producing nuclear weapons. Iran claims its program is for peaceful purposes.

The repugs starting with this shit again will help the Democrats in 2012. As to what effect it will have around the world, it will harm our efforts to contain Iran by causing division between us and the other countries that supported sanctions and of course stoke more anger in muslim countries.

2. The thing that pisses me off about this

is that he speaks like someone who has never taken an introductory political science class before, let alone a class on international relations. He just doesn't understand how the world works and the various complex global issues that we have to deal with. Hes just like, "Fuck Iran, lets bomb them". Thats the extent of his understanding of Iran. They do things we dont like, so lets forcefully stop them from doing it. Hes like an angry little kid, lashing out at people he doesn't like while not understanding why they are doing those things and how our reaction is going to effect those around them.

Besides being wrong factually, the fact that he cant even dress up his beliefs in more intelligent terms is so pathetic.
