Ok let's play a WORST case scenario, shall we?
Look the vote to raise the debt ceiling is coming in January. If the rules of the Senate stay the way they are, one Rand Paul will have the ability to crash the economy... See that good faith of the government for debts...he has the power to crash that.

If you think 2008 was bad...the ebsolute worst case is the crash...yes kiddies a real depression.

Of course this will bring the collapse of empire...

Just pointing out a worst case situation.

And it is scary to even consider this.

1. It could possibly be like what the Berlin Wall coming down was for Communism
Think about it - if the US Government goes bankrupt, then what happens?

I could easily see Rand Paul and his friends trying to get us on the Gold Standard or some batshit crazy stuff - and it ends up causing the US Government to go bankrupt, and it breaking into a bunch of smaller states as a result.

12. Jim DeMint has already backed off the idea of refusing to raise the debt ceiling
They want spending cuts and that could mean he'll demand cuts in Social Security. But he's already gotten off the firm stand on the debt ceiling.

6. It isn't as if there had been a journalist who would have asked
him about that during the race, nor any impetus on his part to have provided an answer if asked, nor a populace inclined to appreciate either the question or the answer. So there is that going against us--but I've always enjoyed the notion that old hands of some kind have leverage over junior senators in some kind of arcane pecking method--whether this is proof against the possibly mad, I don't know.

7. Leadership will inform him that if the economy were to crash big
Hair Club for Men would close, and he'd have to fly to India to get plugs. The thought will put wee Randy in roundabout right quick.

10. This won't happen, here is why.
First, Republican's may demagogue raising the debt ceiling, but they know the consequences of not doing it. If they refuse to do it, the country becomes insolvent virtually immediately. This means the dollar will be worth less than the paper it is printed on. The Republican Party would be destroyed - utterly - as a result.

Second, because Republican's firmly understand the above, they will apply pressure to an individual such as Rand Paul.

Third, Rand Paul would not only face heat and pressure from Republicans. He will face it from THE ENTIRE PLANET. If the United States were to go down, we'd take the entire planet with us. We're talking world wide economic depression. Thus, if Rand Paul is the single hold out on this vote the entire pressure the world can apply to him WILL be applied. Can a single man stare them all in the eye and do it anyway? Not likely.

Fourth, if Rand Paul becomes single handedly responsible for literally destroying the United States and world economy... well just imagine all the angry people. I hope he manages to find a safe place to hide his family, because he'd become the worlds most hated man, and there is little doubt in my mind that his life would be in immediate danger.

Fifth, the Senate only needs 51 votes for it to pass. Rand Paul could easily allow it to come to the floor for a vote then vote against it. Thus he doesn't really sacrifice anything, nor does any of the above happen.
