Talk about your collapsing infrastructure.

We just got back from a side trip to Italy after visiting our son and daughter in Germany. My wife and I visited Pompeii and saw this structure. It was amazing.

Pompeii house collapses into rubble
(AFP) – 6 hours ago
ROME — An ancient training centre for gladiators collapsed early Saturday in the celebrated archeological site of Pompeii, sparking sharp debate over whether it could have been saved.
Located on the main road of the ancient southern city, the House of the Gladiators lay in ruins by the time guards arrived at 0630 GMT, local authorities said in a statement.
The house was once owned by gladiator Marcus Lucretius Fronto, whose victories in battle and love had been scrawled in graffiti on its facade,
The building collapsed following "abundant rain in recent days and the restoration in reinforced concrete" of its upper walls during the 1950s, the ANSA news agency quoted Italy's culture minister Sandro Bondi as saying.
The incident underscores the need for "adequate resources" to conserve Italy's "immense historic artistic heritage," he said.

Leave it to Silvio Berlusconi’s right-wing government, ignore the infrastructure.

1. I was thinking more of it's Historical value.
To allow it to fall into such a condition.

My dil and I are planning to go to Venice/Rome/Florence next year. If I'm still kicking ;) Have you ever been?
