Washington, Nov 7 (IANS) US President Barack Obama’s unscripted dance moves while celebrating Diwali with students in Mumbai are making news back home in the US.

Pictures of Obama’s “Dancing, Diwali”, as CNN put it, are already hitting the airwaves.

“Obama started his second day in India on a lighter note: pulling a few dance moves and celebrating a major religious festival with local students,” it said reporting how the Obamas spent Sunday morning at a local school

“Youngsters performed dances in colorful saris to mark the festival of lights. The president bobbed his head to the music and clapped.”

“Obama took a break from work this morning to participate in cultural events here in Mumbai,” reported conservative Fox News in a long colour piece. Obamas “attended a Diwali candle lighting and literally colourful performance at a local high school and the festivities brought both the Obamas to their feet.”

The president was lured to the dance floor by a group of students at a school in Mumbai, where he and the first lady Michelle Obama were treated to a performance in an auditorium adorned with strings of lights, candles and fresh flower garlands.

The students, dressed in Indian folk costumes in vibrant shades of orange, green, blue and pink, performed a choreographed dance for the first couple, some with baskets on their heads, before they were joined by their audience. It didn’t take much effort to get the first lady, whose dancing at a classroom the day before was a big hit among the India media, to her feet.

The president was a more reluctant participant. “Notice they didn’t ask me,” he joked, likely relieved.

But eventually he was dragged on the dance floor, an image that will forever exist in video.

Here's a description of the president's dancing from a pool report:

(The Obamas) were then treated to some awesome, synchronized dances, lots of spinning and hand movements.

When the kids beckoned, FLOTUS jumped up to join, POTUS resisted. His wife did a remarkable job keeping up with the kids. Then POUTUS gave in, did some not-terribly graceful shuffling," then threw in the towel and gathered the kids around for photos. The damage was done however. Great film.

1. Don't give up your day job POTUS...

Sorry...he absolutely cannot dance, he looked stiff and nerdy doing that. FLOTUS could teach him a move or two

2. he absolutely needs her help
. . . cute kids, though. Nice to see the President and First Lady mixing it up with the children yesterday and today. They're much less formal than the adults who've hosted the First Couple.
