Repubs gained 680 state seats-Redistricting, among other things we need to fear
Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Republicans won a majority of U.S. governorships and made gains in state Legislatures, giving the party greater influence in redrawing congressional districts next year.

The party will control 25 Legislatures, including Ohio, North Carolina and Minnesota, boosting their power in statehouses by the most since 1928, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Republicans won the House and Senate in Alabama for the first time since the end of the Civil War. They took governors’ seats from Democrats in Michigan, Pennsylvania and at least nine other states.

Fifteen to 25 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are more likely to remain Republican or switch from Democratic after redistricting as a result of the party’s victory in the states, said Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican State Leadership Committee.

This is a total of 680 state seats as of Nov 3rd according to Reuters.

Based on unofficial, preliminary returns, legislative chambers that have switched so far are:

•Alabama House and Senate
•Colorado House
•Indiana House
•Iowa House
•Maine House and Senate
•Michigan House
•Minnesota House and Senate
•Montana House
•New Hampshire House and Senate
•North Carolina House and Senate
•Ohio House
•Pennsylvania House
•Wisconsin Assembly and Senate
Undecided chambers that could still switch are the Colorado Senate; the New York Senate; the Oregon House; and the Washington Senate.

Other key observations from this year’s election include:

•Republicans gained at least 680 seats on Tuesday, the largest gain by either party since 1966, surpassing Democratic gains in the post-Watergate election of 1974.

•The North Carolina Senate is now in Republican control for the first time since 1870.

•The Minnesota Senate, which held nonpartisan elections until 1974, is under Republican control for the first time.

•The Alabama legislature is under Republican control for the first time since Reconstruction.

I am far more worried about this than them taking the house because we hold the Presidency and Senate to hold them off. But we better not underestimate this state level takeover.

1. Another result of the brilliant moves made by "our" party" in their endless pursuit of corporate $$.
After SCOTUS appointments, this is the most important reason to be the party in power. We now get another decade of diminishing ability to oppose the march to neo-feudalism.

4. I think so as well
With GOP controlling so many houses and legislatures I worry so much about redistricting.

3. Hey Fox News - go fuck yourselves.
If the republicans fuck up - they're the ones to blame for this.
