how does that make sense? Either one is helping oneself or they are are getting help...it's one or the other, can't be both...

5. I really like that,, but right away I see some flaws.
Nurturing vs "self-reliant". IMO, that is a false dichotomy.

In fact, children who have been well-nurtured are shown to have much more inner strength, and therefore, more self-reliant.

Whoever wrote that doesn't know their psychology very well, but it does clarify for me how people come to these conclusions.
