5. Agree 100%. Worst thing possible would be for the cuts to extend to the top 2%.

7. It's amazing that the only thing they have to do is...nothing.
The tax cuts were conceived by Bush and the GOP--including their expiration date.

If they expire, then the onus is on Bush and the GOP. Why does Obama and the Democrats even have to do anything?

8. I believe that's what's happening
and the Democrats are attempting to vote to extend the Bush tax cuts for people making under $250k, but the Republican'ts are blocking it, and it couldn't be brought forward before the elections.

Fact is, the Bush tax cuts are set to sunset in January. ALL of them. A new tax bill needs to be voted on, but the Republican'ts are fighting this tooth and nail if the bill doesn't extend the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% - which Democrats don't want to do.

They'll revisit the new tax bill when they return to Congress now the elections are over.

That's my understanding of it.

10. This would ensure that Obama would be a one term president.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 03:12 PM by tritsofme
If he presided over a middle class tax increase it would be disastorous. Not only bad politics but bad policy as well, increasing taxes on the middle class is contractionary fiscal policy and would harm the recovery. And that is why it has always been the WH position to extend these rates.

11. I do not believe that..
If the deficit is coming down.. unemployment is dropping and they nominate a tea partier Obama will win in a cake walk..

14. Most of the 'middle class' and lower income folks refuse to admit that they got a cut at all.
How can they mourn something they denied. I would love to hear it.

12. If the Republicans are 1% serious about the debt they would restore
only the taxes cuts to those earning under $200/$250k who would spend their money on things they need which would help the economy, and hold the cuts on those who would keep it.The more money you have the harder it is to spend it, and we need it out there.

13. The Democrats have to jump off this 'tax cuts' bandwagon
The country needs to just bite the bullet and do what is right
