See http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Owner_%2f_Operator%2c_Small_Business/Salary/by_Years_Experience">PAYSCALE.COM

In spite of this, Republicans falsely lump small business owners in with the elites they actually represent, with their "no compromise" rhetoric.

"I am not for sending any signal to small businesses in this country that they're going to have their tax rates go up." ~ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/07/eric-cantor-compromise-tax-cuts-obama_n_780029.html">Eric Cantor

According to exit polls, those who supported Republicans in the last election said the size of the deficit was a larger concern than lowering taxes. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/03/us/03exit.html">NYT

In selecting a Congress that will debate Mr. Obama over deficit reduction and additional stimulus measures, about 4 in 10 voters said reducing deficits should be the first priority, and they favored Republicans. About 4 in 10 said job creation should be a priority, and they favored Democrats. A much smaller share said cutting taxes should be a priority, which Congressional Republicans also favor.

Mr. Cantor isn't listening to his own voters. Of course, now that corporations can buy elections, it may not matter.

4. Goodness are the 40k earners just sole proprietorships?
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 03:45 PM by dkf
I can't imagine that someone who makes 40k can employ many people at a decent wage.

sole proprietors. Regardless, Obama's tax credit should help inspire actual hiring for those in a position to do so. :hi:

9. That's net

It's not a matter of making 40k and then paying people.

My gross is about three times my net, and I employ three.

11. I make more than 40k
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 07:11 PM by jberryhill
But we are typically talking about AGI - gross income after deductions, not "take home pay".

Yes, there are contractors who easily make an AGI of 40k on gross revenues well above 250k, and employ a lot of people collectively. You can't run something like, say, a painting or drywall business without a decent crew, but it's no way to get rich.

7. Just like my brainwashed Republican husband
who makes $85,000 and thinks the Republican Party represents HIM. No, he doesn't own his own business. He is also a few years away from Social Security and Medicare, which I am sure Repukes want to cut and eliminate. He NEEDS both these "government give aways". 401K is a JOKE for anyone making under $200,000 who cannot AFFORD to put large sums into it and are at the mercy of an employer, and GREED of Wall Street.

Brainwashing. So many of the average, middle class American is just plain brainwashed by Republicans. They are NOT a part of their base, but only pander to them for their votes to put/keep them in power.
