Poll question: Should we ask all future Dem U.S. Senate candidates receiving DSCC funds to sign this pledge:
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 06:06 PM by Ken Burch
"In exchange for these funds, while I retain the right to vote my conscience on all final floor votes, I WILL back the leadership on all procedural motions(including cloture)"?

It would be a fair trade-off for the money, wouldn't it?

2. Why?
We have the right to expect SOMETHING from them, don't we?

Why shouldn't it be enough for them to vote against things on final passage?

3. A senator's loyalties should be to the senator's constituents,
and then the country as a whole, and no on else.

7. Not to "organizations"...to the party that made their election possible.

It's time to stop letting the right-wing minority of Dems say to the rest of the party "we don't owe you ANYTHING".

Besides, conservative Democrats are almost always wealthy, so if they don't want to show any party loyalty they can finance their own campaigns.

8. A political party is not "the people"
it's a separate organization that has no official standing in the US constitution and it's goals may or may not be in keeping with the best interests of the American people. Besides, why do they have to sign a pledge? The DSCC (or DCCC for that matter) can always tell people to vote for X or they won't get campaign money, they can do that now, they just never actually do it.

9. But we all know their loyalties are to their biggest donors, not us.
Look at the political hacks who voted according to the amounts they received from the corrupt insurance companies?

11. That's why I said "should"
would it bother you more if they were actually signing loyalty pledges to their biggest donors? Their loyalty is to whoever offers the most and holds their feet to the fire. There's no reason that can't be the Democratic party, no written pledge required.
