STATEMENT REGARDING KEITH OLBERMANN - SUNDAY, NOV. 7

From Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC:

After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night’s program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night.

All our pressure paid off! Ha!

7. Gee you took a ration of crap for that post didn't you?
When in doubt, do not hesitate to make liberal use of the :sarcasm: smiley.

If there is any question in your mind as to whether somebody will take your post literally, use it, you'll stay out of trouble that way.

Or grow a thick skin.

11. My skin is thick after years of being a staunch liberal
I've been around a long, long time, and half the people on this forum are, in my estimation, beginners.

14. Indeed. Phil Griffin is now vulnerable.
He made his move, thought he could throw Keith under the bus, put the fear of God into the liberals on MSNBC, and everywhere in the MSM, get on Comcast's good side.

But the outcry was too great, and the money people decided that ditching Keith would be too much of a blow to the network and it's bottom line, so he was forced to publicly back down, and Keith's gonna be back. Very embarrassing for Phil, and I wonder if he's updating his resume right now...

4. It is great news
But Keith should have never been suspended in the first place. Griffin needs to be fired.

5. Worst Person in the World
Keith Olbermann needs to include himself in this segment. How many times has he railed against Fox influencing and buying American elections? And meanwhile, he's contributing to Democratic candidates? Never mind that Mr. Olberman's politics are obvious.

Then, he should do a special commentary. He should use make it about how there is a distinction between news and commentary. MSNBC recognizes that. Other news organizations (ahem, NPR) recognize that. Some organizations (who will remain nameless but who share their name with a certain vulpine animal) do not recognize that there should be a distinction between news and opinion.

Of course, that's just my little opinion. I don't like to think our pressure paid off, as if NBC really thought what Mr. Olbermann did was unethical, but only reinstated him for market reasons. I would rather believe they came to the realization that what he did may have been wrong, but it was only a technicality and that a brief suspension and warning is an appropriate response.

6. It would be a cute gimmick, a nice mea culpa. But honestly, he just forgot to ask permission...
over something any normal American or American corporation is allowed to do every day.

10. I Know
But a little humility would go a long way in this case. It would also make his point much better than just more criticism of corporate and media influence on elections if he recognized and acknowledged his own mistake. I think people don't see the difference between what Olbermann did and what Fox News people do all the time.

Admittedly, Worst Person in the World may go a bit far since there are so many other to choose from right now...

Well thanks Mr. Griffin, for a pointless pissing contest that has single-handedly united a good portion of MSNBC's viewership AGAINST YOU.
