Fareed Zakaria On The Republicans: Fool Me Once, Shame On You. Fool Me Three Times...
Fareed Zakaria On The Republicans: Fool Me Once, Shame On You. Fool Me Three Times...
By Nicole Belle

Fareed Zakaria reminds Americans that this newest re-taking of the House is the third "Republican revolution", behind the Reagan revolution and Newt Gingrich's Contract On For America. Neither era of Republican control worked out well for the vast majority of Americans. Will the American people give the GOP another chance if they screw this one up?

I know that there are many who agree with Susie Madrak that this is an opportunity to show once and for all that Republican policies simply do not work. Unfortunately, as much as I like and respect Susie's attitude, I just can't be that sanguine. One would hope that people could have been sentient enough to realize that it was the Republican policies writ large with majorities in both the House and the Senate as well as control of the White House that put us in the dire straits we're in and that the trickle-down effect of Reaganomics really never did trickle down to not vote in this third Republican revolution. But unfortunately, overestimating the American people's ability to think critically and sanely seems to be a Democratic curse.

And worse, there is little chance that the majority of Americans will have this pointed out to them via our traditional media. Sure, you and I see it and we seek out media that provide facts and context, but the vast majority of people in this country do not.

That's why it's so refreshing to have a cable news commentator say what needs to be said: The Republican Party have shown time and time again they cannot govern the country well.

1. They're On A Shorter Leash This Time
Firstly, in '80 and '94 the GOTB took control of both Houses (as well as the Executive in '80)...all they got this time is the House. They had a far more united party than they do now and even had an agenda of some sort. All Boner promises is obstruction and investigation...things the great unhinged may love but the majority of the electorate will see as a waste of time and money. There is ZERO mandate here...and the rushpublicans operate under this assumption at their own peril.

:hi:

2. Not short enough and now they have Fox, other corporate media as well like
the some of the republicans have said. They did not have Fox to get their message out before to the people. If the dems are going to confront them they are going to have to do a better job against Fox as well as other corporate media too.

3. This Is Progress, Folks
The true purpose of this election round was to purge our party of its Blue Dog, DINO, corporate shills, put placeholders in that are too whacky to survive, and then run some real Democrats in 2012.

There is a silver lining. It's the jujitsu of politics--letting all your enemies overreach trying to do each other in, and then filling the vacuum.

6. A weird progress and you can have the best candidates in the world but if you can't get
your message out, little good it does you. Hope we can do a better job of that next time around. It is good about the blue dogs being gone, nothing lost there and as well as the southern states, no loss there and also many of the losses were losses there was no way we were going to keep as were republican and just came in the Obama wave. Next time around with better unification of all dems, liberals, and others and most important doing better of getting out to the people our message, we can do better.
