Keith Olbermann should do a continuing series on what progressives have stood for.

I think this is especially important now, as a way of countering the grossly distorted revisionist history being spewed by Fox "News."

It wouldn't have to be a long segment. Maybe no longer than the "Worst Persons in the World" segment he's jettisoned.

It could even be called something like "Best Achievements in the World."

For liberals to stay on message, we need to be reminded of our own history, the struggles that have defined that history, and the victories we won.

The 20th century would have been very different without those achievements.

The 21st will be much worse if we let reactionary conservatives undo them.

We need to remember those struggles and achievements and celebrate them, and Keith could do this better than anyone else in the media now.

4. Thanks! So many social advances Americans now take for granted came into being only
because progressives fought conservatives over those issues, and won.

We need to remind people of that. We need to clarify the Democratic/progressive political narrative.

Keith could do this so well. And revisitng progressive history for even a minute or two in each show would help put all the current battles to preserve those advances and continue moving forward into perspective.

2. If the goal is to teach Americans other than those who now watch Olbermann
it won't have that effect. If you want to reach a wider audience, some other medium or venue is called for than a cable news program designed to draw liberal Democrats.

5. I respectfully disagree
Granted, the average DUer knows more than the average American, but more knowledge is always a good thing, particularly when "discussing" issues with others who disagree. Its very helpful to have a working knowledge of the infamous Sixteen Words or the impact of Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railroad when putting forth one's opinion.

What you want would be nice, but the local discussions matter too.

7. We could also form a progressive history discussion forum on DU
that would be an on-going source of information.

6. It would serve to educate and remind us of why we stand for the things we do.
Well, it isn't like the Dem party, or WH is doing anything in that regard. Someone needs to enumerate our philosophy!
No, our 'leaders' are wondering aimlessly. As it is said, 'without a vision, the people perish'.

8. We can do this here.
We don't need someone else to do this for us.

11. Whether or not we do this here, we need liberals in the media to talk about this, too.
And a nightly show that can focus repeatedly, even if only briefly, on progressive accomplishments is the best possible way to get this message across, especially with the Net amplifying the effectiveness of short video segments.

3. Great idea!
Excellent! I know his Fridays With Thurber segments are nice and a good tribute to his dad, but this idea has something we all desperately need.

9. Olbermann should devote a whole segment to
exposing the Republicans that have bought their way into Comcast and who want to get rid of the Lefties at MSNBC.

10. VERY good idea. Publicity is a big problem for Progressives.
It's so easy to forget that something that's going okay even exists, while that splinter in your toe feels like the universe. We could use acknowledgement of all the trials and successes that have been to everyone's advantage.

17. Thanks! And I agree that publicity has been a huge problem for us.
We let the wingnuts define and disparage us, all too often. It's time to take our political narrative back!

14. This could be his next book!!!
He collects other segments for books, he could do the same here. An Olbermann history book could become as important as his fellow Cornell alumni Strunk and White's book

Just a pitch for the Olbermann Broadcasting Empire, Inc.
