GOP taking aim at Bill Nelson, the last Democrat standing

WASHINGTON -- Florida Republicans walked away from last Tuesday's election in control of every major statewide office save one -- the U.S. Senate seat of Democrat Bill Nelson. And if the GOP gets its way, that final stronghold will fall when Nelson runs for re-election in 2012.

Several Republicans have hinted that they might challenge the two-term senator, including incoming state Senate President Mike Haridopolos of Merritt Island and U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, whose temporary appointment ends in January when senator-elect Marco Rubio is sworn in.

They have reasons to be optimistic. Nelson supported the Democratic healthcare reform bill and the $787-billion stimulus -- two pieces of legislation that drove conservatives to the polls in droves this year.

While memories of these votes will fade somewhat before 2012, it's clear that Nelson has a tough road ahead unless the political mood and the state's 11.7-percent unemployment rate improve in two years.

Republicans are in charge of Tallahassee. They are the reason why we have over 11% unemployment. And people voted these do-nothings back into office?? Now it's Nelson's fault?? Our unemployment would have been over 20% if it wasn't for the stimulus

It was Jacksonville that floundered.

7. No I mean Tallahassee as in the government of Florida

There were very few true Democratic areas of the state this past election. Tallahassee, Palm Beach, Port St Lucie, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, & Miami voted overwhelmingly for Alex Sink. The rest of the numbnuts decided they wanted a liar and thief in the Governor's mansion. But those of us in the largest cities voted for Alex Sink. She deserved better than a loss to pRick Scott.

it will become apparent that Florida is screwed way past its unemployment problems. Repiglicken rule is fast turning that benighted state into Haiti-With-Cable. Under Rick Scott, Florida is so screwed that the light from Screwed will take a million years to reach it.

On the other hand, the Repigs may not be that interested in Bill Nelson. He's half of the firm of Nelson and Nelson (Ben and Bill) and is hard to distinguish from a Repiglicken on any given day.

The only targeting they seem to be doing is trying to get rid of REAL DEMOCRATS in key positions and replacing them with bluedog/republicons or undercover racist.
