Imagine how Osama Bin Laden will feel, if he still feels anything, when he hears about today.
Not only did his terrorist campaign frighten Americans so much we were willing to give up the sacred liberties generations have died defending, he's got us running around soiling our collective pants at the first sign of something which even looks mildly suspicious.
America's news media is a feeding frenzy, and they're partly to blame.
However, the real problem is not with the media, but the fact that we are all so afraid of terrorism.
When we surrender logic and reason to fear, we enable the terrorists to haunt us every moment of our lives. We cannot forget 9/11, but everyday is not 9/11. The real power of terrorism is fear. These people cannot manage to main or kill 300 million Americans. That's the simple truth, and we should always be mindful of it.
While it is certainly reasonable to be suspicious when something odd pops up in daily life, in fact it's in the interest of self preservation to be suspicious, odd things in even the largest cities do not need to frighten all of America.
When law enforcement in Boston figured out that this was not some bomb, they should have told the city. The fact that the authorities were not more forthright in this matter, is probably one reason that people paid so much attention to this. It's sort of like going to the doctor and having to have a test for cancer, and having to wait for the results of that test.
What a little common sense would do America at this crucial time in our history, unfortunately that seems to have been surrendered as well.
Hopefully, people with time will regain their logic, reason, and just plain old common sense.
Until then, I fear Osama is laughing.
