Police: Man Using Bathroom Shot Self In Groin
27-Year-Old Taken To Orlando-Area Hospital

EmailPrintORLANDO, Fla. -- A 27-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the groin while removing a gun from his waistband so he could go to the bathroom, according to Orlando police.

Edwin Xavier Rameriz-Figueora shot himself on Friday afternoon in the 700 block of Thalia Drive, and he was taken to Florida Hospital East, an Orlando Police Department Event Sheet shows.

According to police, the gun discharged as Rameriz-Figueora was preparing to go to the bathroom and a bullet went through his groin area.

A friend took Rameriz-Figueora to the hospital, police said. His condition is not known.

street criminals often carry firearms in their waistband without a holster. If chased by the police they can dump the weapon and not be asked questions about the empty holster.

Most people with concealed carry licenses learn the value of a holster in the CCW class.
