Actor Alec Baldwin may be mulling a run for Congress.

America’s favorite fictional mogul could be looking to move his office from 30 Rock to Capitol Hill, MSNBC reported today.

The network is quoting sources close to actor Alec Baldwin as saying the actor intends to challenge Randy Altschuler of New York for Congress in two years if the Republican candidate ends up winning the House seat currently occupied by Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y. The Altschuler-Bishop race is one of a handful still deemed too close to call; the most recent count shows Bishop, a four-term incumbent, trailing by less than 400 votes.

Baldwin is no stranger to politics. He has been both criticized and acclaimed for his outspoken support of the Democratic Party (he donated $2,000 to Bishop's campaign this year), and in an interview with CNN last year, revealed his interest in running for public office.

“The desire is there; that’s one component,” he said. “The other component is opportunity.”

Yeah... I think he has too much baggage now
Especially considering how close the vote is in this particular district.

7. Or keep repeating that line that he would move to Canada if * won in 2000.
I think he might be able to take it, but it would certainly be a brutal campaign if he decided to run.

18. Norm Coleman repeatedly played a less-than-flattering Al Franken radio rant...
And look where that got him.

3. There were rumors about him challenging Peter King a few years ago
But it never happened. I think the "selfish little pig" bit might not play well for him.

I would love to see him make a go of it, though! :hi:

6. Maybe, if he sent someone to curb-stomp his daughter. Then, he would be qualified for the Senate
as well as the House.

Seriously, why do rethugs get a pass on "questionable" behavior (including crimes) while Dems are pre-screened for similar histories?

8. always thought he looked like al gore
i heard a story once by a man who said he had a woman come up to him and say 'if you changed your hair color, you'd look just like al gore'

the man said he's been told that before

(which is not surprising, since it was al gore telling the story)

14. He's smart by Hollywood actor standards. It's not the same as being a campaign tactician.
The life of being surrounded by sycophants may tend to make a person intellectually lazy. I agree: I don't think he'd do too good mixing it up in a debate or a joint live TV broadcast against an opponent or a hostile interviewer. He's probably best spent on fundraisers for candidates who've paid their dues and worked their way up the system.

Republicans do pretty good running show horses. Being a show horse is what they expect of their elected officials. Democrats tend to look for a little more substance.

19. So Bucky, do you know many Hollywood actors?
You imagine a life surrounded by sycophants? What do you base your opinions about his debate skills or live interview abilities?

since last fall. His support for the arts would play well in that area.
