How come people are so uninformed?
95% of working Americans got a tax cut under the stimulus bill... they don't know it. Not only do they not know it, bur for some reason so many of them hate the stimulus bill.

Deficit projections are down in the last year... but people don't know it.

People love the provisions of the Health Care Reform bill, but for some reason, they don't like the bill.

They also don't know that repealing Health Care Reform will increase the deficit.

How is it that people don't know that short-term stimulus spending doesn't increase deficits anywhere near as much as structural tax policy?

I don't think the problem of the Democratic Party is that they're out of touch... I think that they haven't been able to inform people about what they've actually done.

and nothing more.

They are the BORG. Resistance is futile.
You have no voice. You have no power. Get used to it.

6. Because we want to do white papers
instead of play some fear... it would be unseemly and shit.

We need to go to war, not crumpets and tea...

And they have been WINNING the messaging war for decades.

At this point I don't think it is coincidence. Sorry to say it, but I think our leadership is on it... meet the new boss.

8. They are better organized.
They have better email campaigns, a louder news network, and more aggressive radio personalities. We need to learn to fight fire with fire. Fight as hard and as loudly as they do, but with the difference of telling the truth.

18. Because of the steady disinformation campaign...
...that is promulgated on talk radio and right wing shows and is very, very rarely countered in the media at all.

The powers that control capitalism have no need of an informed populace. In fact they benefit by a misinformed / disinformed / ignorant / divided populace, so that is what they actively foster with the stream of invective and lies that emanates from the likes of Limbaugh and Beck and Hannity and Faux News et cetera.

It works very well. We do have a few voices on the left now, primarily on MSNBC, but we saw just recently how precarious that is. In the meantime we are deluged with swill, and as things get worse, people's lizard brains take over and we're all looking for someone to blame for the fact that we are doing worse than we were, and that there is little sign of it getting better.

Meanwhile the fat cats give themselves bonuses and move their fake money around and live like kings could not have imagined in their wildest dreams. What do they care about global climate change? They'll just buy themselves "safe" places that won't be inundated with the rising seas, and they're pretty sure they'll survive the calamity. As for the rest of us, who cares? The world is overpopulated anyway, right?

If this is not a recipe for disaster, I don't know what is.
