I'm happy to say that I didn't have any snappy retorts or put downs for him as I told him that I wasn't interested.

Just a polite refusal and a smile.

Wow, that's all it took to make him leave.

By the way, when I last checked, the world was still spinning on its axis...

I guess God doesn't feel like punishing me today.

1. Just a kind "No, thank you" is all it takes
And good on you for not bringing the snark. As much as we get annoyed by the fundies, a lot of them are absolute in their faith, and belittling them serves no purpose.

Thank you for your kindness.

3. Had a couple stop by on Saturday
Very nice, young couple, they've stopped by once before, and they were polite to ask if I had some time. Had been in my boxers, and I did put on pants to answer the door. Perhaps, had I not exercised that nicety, it would have been entirely non-verbal communication. Anywho.

I told them sorry, but I was very busy at the moment. They tried to get a follow up visit by asking if there was another time which was more convenient, and I said no there was not.

Mormons wander by now and again, and much as I wanna give them a verbal smack, I stick by the "I'm busy" excuse.

4. I kind of look out for the Jehovah's on my block. The girls come
around and I've had a chat with people a couple of times about getting out of line with them. One of the all time great guys is one of there elders now. He ran the Nova program when I was in high school. He used to come around with the girls and stop by to see me. I went to school with his younger brothers and was friends with all of them.
He always knew not to waste time on a godless heathen like myself. We are still pretty good friends.

5. I'm trained to handle them: Don't try this at home
My wife laughs when there's Baptists at the door. Why? Because I'm a seminary graduate, ex-Baptist minister and devout atheist.

Boy, do I have fun with them! (And realize that I was on the other side of the door many, many times over the years, so I'm very friendly and outgoing to whoever shows up.)

Although they promise to come back, they never do. All I do is ask them some very basic questions about their faith. When they realize that they are not talking with the typical "man in the street" they start getting a funny look, their eyes begin to dart about and it's easy to see that the proselytizing session is not going in the manner outlined in "Evangelism Explosion" or whatever guide they're using.

I had one man so befuddled that he couldn't name one thing that Jesus said. All he wanted to do was get the hell off my porch and back into the safety of his church.

But most of the time it's just easier to yell through the door "We don't believe in baptism by immersion."

6. Politely listen for a while and then ask, "Do you have a dog?" Wait a bit and interrupt again...
"Do you have any sharp knives?" Wait a bit longer and then start cackling in a fiendish manner. If nothing else, it will keep the fucker awake at night worrying that you might be trying to break into his house.
