Agree to permanent extension of ALL Bush Tax Cuts if and only if the Republicans are able to conclusively demonstrate to the American public(using independent facts and figures) how and where the Bush Tax Cuts positively contributed to job growth during the past 7-8 years.
OR
Agree to a single one-year extension (subject to further authorization for any future renewals) of all Bush Tax Cuts if the Republicans develop metrics by which to judge whether or not ALL of the Tax Cuts are creating jobs and improving the economy, agree to review them in a year to determine whether or not they are having a positive impact on the economy, and agree to refuse to support their renewal if the Tax Cuts are determined to not have any positive effect on job growth and the overall performance of the economy within the course of the following year.
Either proposal would give President Obama and the Democratic Party an opportunity to show the public that they are reasonably and responsibly trying to "work with the Republicans" and force the Republicans to actually have to show us, in cold hard numbers, how the Bush Tax Cuts, in their entirety, have helped grow jobs and the economy during the past 7-8 years and why they should be continued.
My guess is that they simply won't be able to do it.
