Healthy people are not profitable, neither is dead people
Isn't that really the core of the US pharmaceutical industry?

Keep people sick as long as possible, and addicted to drugs and treatment, because that's were the money lies for big pharma. So what can be done about that?

1. As long as there is a way to profit, that's all that matters.
I'm not sure what can be done to address the root issue. Those roots are invasive, deep, and well established.

2. This is the result of allowing our health care to be run by corporations
whose sole fiduciary responsibility is to make profit. That's it. That's all.

That's why they spent tens of millions to demonize HCR which would focus on preventative care instead of allowing people to wait until something's gotten so bad it would cost tens, even hundreds of thousands in care.

That's why euthanasia is a felony in the United States. Dead people tell no tales, and they don't bring in profits.

God, I'm glad we're going to have single payer in California soon...

3. I don't see the world in black-and-white.
Of course the pharmaceutical industry shouldn't be automatically trusted. Neither should the supplement industry (which has virtually no regulation - unlike pharma), the auto industry, the banking industry, etc.

But keep in mind that lots of conditions ARE cured by "big pharma." Antibiotics are not taken for life, they're taken for 1-2 weeks. Chemotherapy, taken for a short period (NOT for life), has helped us achieve 80-90% survival rates for a number of formerly fatal cancers.

One could also argue that it's our own fault - millions of people have conditions they could treat with improved diet and exercise, but choose to demand a pill instead. Is big pharma guilty for providing it?

Try to see the many shades of gray. It will help you here in the real world.
