GOP creates new leadership position to satisfy Tea Party demands
By Jesse Zwick 11/8/10 6:03 PM

Greg Sargent reports that the GOP may yet come up with a way to satisfy the Tea Party’s demands for representation among the Republican leadership. How? By creating a new position called “representative of the incoming freshman class”:

A GOP aide tells me that the decision has been made to create the post, and newly elected Tea Party favorite Kristi Noem, who unseated Dem Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin in South Dakota and is known to her fans as the “next Sarah Palin,” has “indicated a strong interest.”

In another nod to the incoming freshmen Republicans, the position will be elected by only those freshmen, not the leadership.

The position sounds a bit like the throne to an imaginary kingdom — what are its actual responsibilities and powers? How the role factors into the GOP’s current leadership web will determine whether it’s just a fancy title or a position that will actually satiate the Tea Party’s desire to provide input and influence the direction of the party.

2. It's more than the Dem leadership ever gave the progressive base.
One can learn from one's opponents. Yes?

9. Ha! The difference is, the progressives would see it for what
it was, and be insulted. Let's see how the baggers react.

10. LOL. Sure, we'd be insulted. But, then, someone would tell us we shouldn't "expect a pony."
That would shut most of us up.

15. How's that subtlety thing workin' out for ya, Sarah?

Palin dismissed longtime office-holders like Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown and Sen. Barbara Boxer as leaders who “act like they’re permanent residents of a unicorn ranch in fantasyland.”

Quite a turn of phrase, there. Unfortunately, all that sawing at the wheel flipped the vehicle over.

3. Nothing will satiate teabaggers
No matter how much they're given everything they want they will always want more. They will want death camps for everyone not like them. That's not just Muslims either. That's us on DU too.

5. Sheesh! That sounds like our old "freshman initiation" in high school.
Is that wording a way of putting "them" in their place with a demeaning title? I'll bet Rand Paul is all tingly inside over that one.

These guys remind me of little boys with the club house in the backyard or up in a tree. They have their silly rules and protect their territory. Didn't anyone tell them that their club house days are over and they are supposed to act like adults?

Little boys and schoolyard bullies. Yep! Repugs!

7. Sounds like something to keep the baggers busy and out of the way. Don't all
freshmen have to learn the rules? The first one being, as freshmen they're at the bottom of the heap.

8. Ah, the kensui.
Kensui
A waste-water container used by the host in the tea room during ceremonies. Water that has been used to rinse the tea bowl is emptied into the bowl, and in the event that the host must dispose of a small item (such as a used sheet of kaishi), he or she will place it in the kensui. Since it is considered dirty, kensui is kept out of sight of the guests as much as possible. It is the last item brought into the tea room, and the first item removed.

19. I'm reminded...
There's a child's game called "I Conquer the Castle" in which the 'conqueror' bestows upon him/herself incredibly grandiose titles...

...also that bit in Calvin and Hobbes where they are arguing over titles...think Calvin came out of it with 'Supreme Dictator-For-Life'.
I don't remember what Hobbes was called...
