War with Iran ...?

US-IRAN
Netanyahu Pounds War Drums
By Jim Lobe*

WASHINGTON, Nov 8, 2010 (IPS) - Less than a week after Republicans made major gains in the U.S. midterm elections, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has called on President Barack Obama to "create a credible threat of military action" against Iran.

------------------------

VP Biden has been pushing for this as well -- in the last few days --

and in comments since he has become VP!

Are Americans ready for yet more perpetual war?

1. It's a coordinated effort...looks good to supporters of Israel in the US
and in theory it may help motivate the Iranians to cease activities that could lead to nuclear weaponry.

The problem with this argument, one that has been put forward for years upon years, is that it doesn't actually seem to scare Iranian decision makers.

10. Question is does Obama have control over MIC ... ??? We sure don't ... !!!
Noticed on an OP the other day on some other subject I was replying to here at DU that

there was some "chatter" about Obama not having a fun time in trying to contro the MIC.

Unfortunately, I didn't go back and reread the comments -- but basically that there have

been some reports -- none I've seen -- that there is a struggle going on with Obama trying

to exert the power of CIC -- but not succeeding????

Have you heard anything on that?

:)

4. The wise George W Bush has said many times - War is the fastest & best way to build a strong economy
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 02:21 PM by GreenTea
And republicans know corporations make billions of dollars selling their weapons, and war goods....It's fabulous for the rich & corporations - especially when the country to be invaded has massive oil fields that the greedy desperately want.

Just make the leader of that country into the boogieman, then invade, kill the leader, steal the oil, occupy the country and keep billions rolling in for the corporations for decades.

Bush knows of what he speaks....More wars, dying soldiers, killing and destruction it's profitable for a very few so why not - it might get our economy rolling (isn't that what they told us before and 'cheap gas').

5. Rhetoric should always be taken with a grain of salt
There's little to worry about here, at least from the US. Americans are not ready for another war and that's a big reason why no attack occurred under Bush and won't under Obama and also probably won't under his successor. Israel I don't know about, perhaps they'll carry out air strikes, but that's very much an open question. Let's not get overly-excited here just because a few figures have blustered about. That's nothing new in the game of diplomacy.

7. Why not?
The Afghanistan occupation will end in another four years, and we only gonna be in Iraq for two more years. Yemen isn't heating up very much right now except for our drones.

Perhaps we should take AFRICOM out for a spin.
