I pay for these things in full. It takes that long to save for that, and keep saving for retirement.

Suffice it to say they BEAT the Reagan and the USCG on scene... the tugs are Navy Tugs... yes I did a double take... and they have the evac procedures ready... done it once, so this is the second time.

I am sure to the Tourists on that vesel it was a surprise to see Mexican Navy Ships on scene first... I mean all the stereotypes... and the SPAM, I am guessing it was the EMRATS they loaded on those Navy ships before putting out to see.

As I said before, most people really will not like Mexican EMRATS until they're hungry enough.

As I told the OP bellow also technically the Reagan is very technically under the command of a Mexican JO... which is humorous, insofar as the assistance goes. This is, after all, tradition. the IC is the first on scene.

Cruises are also quite inexpensive. 300-1500 a person depending on where you choose to sleep.

RCL put us up in Miami for 2 days and flew us to Jamaica and then charted taxis to catch the boat THEN they refunded half our cruise price for all 4 of us that went. It wasn't even RCL's fault but they took care of us.

otherwise, I wouldn't mind so much being stuck on a ship that's dead in the water - not like it's sinking, or in any real danger, and what does one do on a ship, anyway, but hang out, drink, and eat? Doesn't need to be moving for that.

I know the bathrooms weren't working for a while, but I don't know otherwise how bad the conditions were - probably stuffy in the inner staterooms, I'm sure. It might be worse than I've been imagining, but I don't know.

And I tend to be pretty damn flexible and go-with-the-flow, so probably wouldn't be too bothered by this.

October, 2001, to be exact. We booked August 31. The cruise line in question wouldn't allow us a refund if we canceled, so we went.

We didn't have an engine fire, but there were such severe storms at sea that even the captain was ill. They had insufficient seasickness meds. There was a disruptive passenger that caused huge problems for most other people onboard. There were other things that happened that, again, don't rival an engine fire, but left the passengers on our cruise exceedingly upset and frustrated. The US bombed Afghanistan during our cruise, therefore, we weren't able to visit Kauai, the whole reason we went on the cruise in the first place. It was an awful experience.

I'm never going on a cruise again unless a) it stops every day, and b) we don't go on Norwegian Cruise Line. Carnival is not only refunding the price of everyone's cruise, they are giving the equivalent of a free cruise at a future date to everyone on board. The people currently on that ship are enduring a lot of inconvenience, but Carnival is doing their best to make up for it.

Having done this with CHinese ilegal aliens I am betting the bus convoy will go to Otay, and if need be ambulances will be standing by in case they are needed. Mexican Red Cross rigs, to be exact. Smells like they activated the sea borne DN-III-E and that they are probably providing EMRATS anyway. For the record the Mexican Navy did NOT have this capacity upwards of ten years ago...
