Keith Olbermann: "And That's The Point. If I Had Given Through The U.S. Chamber Of Commerce..."
My donations were public...

"And that's the point. If I had given through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, you would have NEVER known."

OLBERMANN: "But to wrap this up I'll say something utterly contrarian about this.

I think we saw where the political contribution system is working for transparency and democracy and where it is failing transparency and democracy.

I made legal political contributions as a U.S. citizen near midnight Eastern on Thursday night, Oct. 28. By 10 p.m Eastern on Thursday night, Nov. 4th, those contributions were public knowledge.

And that's the point. I gave. And you found out. And you judged me for good or for ill as you felt appropriate.

If I had given the money through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, you would have never, ever known.

That's Nov. 9th... I'm Keith Olbermann. Good night and good luck."

Y'know, my 11 year old acted like that about Ashley Tisdale two years ago.

And of course, he just couldn't stand her; that's why he watched "Zack and Cody" only ONCE a day.

http://movetoamend.org/

Four years ago, Warren Buffett, the third richest man on the planet, said, "Of course there is a class war, but it's my class, the rich class, that is waging the war, and we're winning."

This mid-term election in the United States is a front of the class war. Business interests and the wealthy have declared war against anything that dares to impose controls on them, limit their activities or touch their fortunes, and they say so, explicitly and openly.

54. Well, we have some choices
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 01:35 PM by ProudDad
We can analyze our "purchases"...

Some things we're forced to buy but can cut down...

Like gas for vehicles in most of USAmerica that's built for the car instead of for transportation. If we live close enough - bike or walk...

Like food -- try to find a CSA or food co-op in your town...

Or rent or mortgage...

But many things are discretionary.

We should NEVER buy anything from a national chain unless there's no other option. We should buy used, buy locally produced or think twice and in many cases not buy at all...

NEVER BUY FAST FOOD!!! NEVER BUY "SOFT DRINKS"!!!

The important thing to remember about the corporate capitalist system is how fragile it is. With just a rather small critical mass withholding our treasure from the worst offenders, they'd crumble...

That's how we MUST fight back -- frontal assaults (and "elections") will NOT work...!

28. K&R He conveyed the feeling that he is very safe now - I hope so.
He was clearly enjoying his comeback segment so much, and he didn't seem at all restricted in what he said. I also got the impression (from his obviously sincere gratitude) that without the public's support, he would've been a goner. In short, he seemed like someone who's just dodged a bullet, and now has a "get out of jail free card" to boot.

Best of all, that he closed with the Chamber of Commerce point, which is the big issue.

Way to go, KO! :applause:

42. I think he was being kind to the public. I agree it had to help, but
he had a million viewers a night, they have no one who could draw as well, and the advertisers would not have sat still for an arbitrary firing. Did MSNBC really want to refund all those advertising $ they had already contracted for?

I think the suits may have been drunk from the Tuesday night election results and once the lawyers, advertisers, and the public set them slapped them with reality, they sobered up. I wish I believed that they were ethical enough to have simply had a lapse and upon reflection, realized they had made a mistake. But I don't think so.

Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 01:37 PM by ProudDad
They could have axed him and nearly all of the sheeple would have completely forgotten in less than 6 months...

As they inundated us with a dozen more manufactured "crisis"...

The only REAL crisis is that our Earth is being rendered uninhabitable by the corporate capitalist masters for their short-term profit.

Anything else pales by comparison...

48. That was awesome, and his apology for attacking that guy was very classy
As was his point that on-air disclosure would have been de facto fundraising for those candidates.

I completely believe that he didn't realize he targeted the opponent of someone he donated to as a "worst person in the world" and that had he realized that, he would have mentioned it or probably just left him out entirely.

Go Keith.
