So I guess there are no wars going on?
Iraq is over and Afghanistan must be winding down...right?
Okay in all seriousness...remember when PBS "The News Hour" had a moment of silence at the end of the segment and showed the pictures and names of those killed?
Remember when we heard reports and were kept up to date (as censored as it was) about what was going on?

Is it my imagination or did this silence and general lack of reporting on the death and misery of war start about the time Obama was elected President?

What the fuck is wrong with this country?
:wtf:

1. I mailed a package of clothes and toys to soldiers in Afghanistan yesterday
to give to children....so I very much am aware of the wars - most people though? They truly don't give a fuck. It is WAY down on their "list of concerns".

5. I've been sending packages for five years now
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 12:58 AM by Skittles
one of my favorite letters from a soldier mentioned the box load of beanie babies I sent (inherited by a coworker who didn't want them) - the soldier said they were fixing up a school and wrote, "we handed one toy to one little girl and we were overrun" - the children literally knocked down a couple of troops in their excitement :D

I have a lot of fun too, by including silly things - like a small screeching, flying monkey - that one ended up aimed at a captain in a shower - the soldier wrote, "the effect was SPECTACULAR" LOL

Tell your boy to get on www.anysoldier.com !

"don't forget the innocents of war...the refugees"

he was eaten alive by what he saw, what he did in vietnam.

15. I hold back here

I hold back my critique and at times vile contempt for President Obama.
Here, at the DU, there is a heavy dose of push-back when going down that road for some reason.
My sense is that his "nice guy" persona trumps any foreign family getting roasted by our Predator Drones or losing a family member sent over there for what?.

Shutting people up isn't going to make things better, not by a long shot.

14. That's what I mean

Even The News Hour quit honoring those killed with a moment of silence.
If I am wrong then let me know but I haven't seen that segment in months and months.

22. The News Hour still has its Honor Role
I watch the News Hour every night. The Honor Role continues--to my sorrow. I wish it weren't needed. But it IS there.

23. As Veteran's Day approaches...the Corporate media will feel obligated to do a token story or two
But they will be back to SELLING things and RW Propoganda--the way they sold us the War, Dubya, Sarah Palin, Birthers, Tea Baggers, and Death Panels.
