DEVASTATING Review of W's Book
<...> His sadness over Hurricane Katrina is not for the victims in New Orleans, as Mr West understood, but for the damage done to his reputation by that snap of him staring blankly and aloofly down on the catastrophe from the window of Air Force One. His paramount distress over Iraq is not over the loss of life, civilian and military, but how that banner proclaiming "Mission Accomplished" on the aircraft carrier came to make him look naive and vainglorious. He reveals his shallowness and vapidity with these reflections in the most crystalline of clarity, and hasn't a notion he is doing so.

It takes a certain minimal intelligence for the truly dim to have a notion of their own dimness, but this is denied him. Unlike Mr Tony Blair, who emerges from his well-calibrated if often chilling memoir as a man of colossal cleverness (though not intellect), W has the self-awareness of a bison. There seems even less to him than met the eye, and there was precious little of that. Astounding as it appears, we misoverestimated him.

And so the Wagner Question poses itself yet again. Every Saturday when the Brazilian sea monster murders his X-Factor song, 14 million people ask themselves how and why he is there. Reading these ghost-written titbits, you ask yourself the same. How in the name of all the saints did George W Bush, wastrel drunkard son of an East Coast patrician family, find his way to Pennsylvania Avenue by playing the genial good ol' boy from the South, and why in heaven's name did he want it anyway? And answers come there none.

The reduction of Bush's two terms to a satirical sequel to one of those US prep school movies in which the smirking, idiot boy breaks the honour code but is rescued by his Brahmin dad had come to seem shamefully hackneyed. But the one cliché worth trotting out here is that clichés are clichés because they are true. Somehow this half-witted frat boy journeyed, via some jovially preposterous sequence of events involving failed oil deals and baseball team franchises, from japes with Alpha Sigma Phi to possession of the nuclear codes. <...>

Oh, just read the whole thing for yourselves: The Independent

2. Worst. president. Ever!!
...and he ain't doing any good with his smug "interviews" that only bring back the old anger and contempt many have for this fukstick for so many reasons.

No surprise that he and his minions are trying to rewrite history and gotta love his "legacy" where he says that history won't vindicate him until he's dead. That's the way he can justify the lies...they'll never catch up with him.

This frat boy has lived a charmed life in so many ways...getting breaks due to powerful family connections and escaping any scrutiny for his war crimes and other malfesance by a tepid Democratic party. But he can't and hasn't fooled the American people. Too many still remember why they despise this oxygen thief. Also a reason the publisher decided (I'm sure in concert with Rover) to wait to release this piece of shit after the elections.

3. He summed it up nicely
For the two imbecile wars he began, for condoning torture by denying waterboarding was torture at all on the
grounds that his lawyers said it was legal; for turning the surplus he inherited from Bill Clinton into the crippling
deficit that is bringing the age of American hegemony to a startlingly abrupt end; and for being the pitiably
Wagnerian fool who stumbled on to the grandest stage without any apparent clue why or for what earthly purpose,
there he will forever remain.

15. Bush couldn't wait to spend Clinton's surplus, hence
Big tax cuts for the rich. He pushes 2 wars and doesn't demand any sacrifice by the corps or the people to pay for these wars. The guy/gal totin' a gun were fodder to his administration.

If those tax breaks for the rich were so great and would help business create jobs, then, where are the jobs? They used their extra dollars to further their pile of money and depended on the Feds to bail them out when the banks, etc., failed.

9. Consider "Merry Olde England" still retains the medieval remnants of Royalty
How in the world do many permit and approve of that genetically-connected/required monarchy to continue into the 21st century?

As an IRL fairy-tale...so that young members of the "great unwashed" can still dream about maybe someday marrying a Prince or Princess?

32. I was going to jump on Boudica...
but got to thinking about it- it doesn't concern us. The queen has no real power in England and is merely a symbol- a symbol that the English taxpayer is willing to pay for to keep around for a reason that we, as Americans, do not understand. She does no harm to the world, so It is none of our flipping business.

The fact that our royals are an embarrassment has no connection to the fact that your previous President was a vain, arrogant, ignorant, stupid dickhead. Like Bush, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Was there anything that W did that was decent? The only thing I can think of is 'The Do Not Call List' that one could sign up for so telmarketers wouldn't bother you.

That's all I can think of....and I'm quite sure W didn't come up with the idea. It simply happened during his administration.

now on to the rest...

edit: One thing re: this book and the interviews I've seen bits of, thus far. Is there any wonder why Bush continually responds "I want people to read the book" when he's asked questions in these ridiculously softball interviews? He NEEDS people to read the book to get the answers... so that he doesn't contradict whatever the ghostwriter said.

I feel about this book about how I would the publishing of something by Gacey, Bundy or Madoff. Any proceeds should go to the victims of his crimes.

25. Nice try! Usually amazon.com has more scathing reviews that are just hilarious.
You should see the one-star reviews for this book. They always get a bunch of comments by people paid to say things like "Well you haven't read the book!" Opposite of that are all the 5-star reviews paid for by the publishing company.

All I have to say about this damn book is: Read it? I fucking lived in and almost died in it!

36.  And answers come there none.
As to why Bush was "there"? Sure they come. But like "the separation of church and state" is not actually written in the Constitution.... but it's clearly there nonetheless... The answers are there.

He's a PR stunt.... a smoke screen. He's put up so those who knew they couldn't get elected would have a patsy to distract from what they were doing. And if it all went wrong or was discovered, they could defer their guilt to the (fake) Prez. Those who voters would have never legitimately allowed to be in charge are the likes of Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Pearl....and actually Bush himself since he didn't actually win. Yep... the Big Boys failed to get Dubya elected so they had to go to plan B and bring in the Supremes. Dubya agrees to be Prez because he's a megalomaniac who actually thinks he was the "War President", the "Peace President" and "The Decider" for real.

It's all there....

...because as National Village Idiot he was "alibi-in-a-box" for all the illegal and immoral actions and atrocities to come.

Dumbya agreed to be pResident because he was easily manipulated and a weak-minded fool, who still probably does not realize that to cheney*, rumsfeld*, perle and the rest of the "lords of new Rome" he was a farce and the butt of every joke.
