Alvin Greene mulls presidential bid
Source: Politico

Updated: 11/9/10 7:35 PM EST

Alvin Greene might run for president.

Greene, the unlikely Democratic Senate nominee in South Carolina who lost overwhelmingly to Republican Sen. Jim DeMint last week, called the state Democratic Party on Tuesday to ask how much it would cost to run for president.

“Maybe. I’ll have to see,” Greene told POLITICO when asked whether he was considering filing to run for president. He confirmed that he called the state party Tuesday to ask about the fee. The state party’s spokeswoman, Keiana Page, confirmed that someone called the party Tuesday asking about the presidential filing fee but said that the caller did not identify himself.

In 2008, South Carolina’s presidential filing fee for candidates was $2,500. Page said the state has yet to set its fee for the upcoming 2012 contest.

That explains why Greene wasn’t sure how much it would set him back to run: He asked POLITICO about how much the fee would be.

5. I really do want to see him run
just to watch him get invited to the debates.

Maybe not as much fun as the Rent Is Too Damn High Party, but certainly funnier than "Two And A Half Men."

18. I like when he says over and over "Jim DeMint started the recession"
His IQ may be limited but at least he's a Dem!

6. Looks like the Dems now have their version of "Christine O'Donnell"
About as dim and he appears to see running for political office as an alternative to holding a real job.

and we won't have to worry about that. He's already indicted.

As a resident of SC, I find nothing the least bit funny about this. We had a good Dem in the primary who could have given DeMint trouble, forcing him to spend money and at least debate the issues.

It never ceases to amaze how some think this is just a big joke. I doubt that they'd find it so entertaining if their voting choice for US Senator would be between an unknown, seriously troubled, indicted felon and Jim DeMint.

And despite the "findings" of a republican inquiry that there was no evidence of voting irregularity, there is no way a completely unknown individual who did not campaign could have beaten a well-known Dem. who campaigned across the state.

If this had happened in any other state except SC, the same people who think this is just a big joke would be outraged.

I took what happened in SC extremely seriously as I don't think everything was as it seemed. I guess what I found 'funny' was how surreal politics has become and that he didn't get the message the 1st time.

Reflecting on it though, it might not even be him who's actually 'mulling' it. It could still be part of the long game being played by whomever was behind his original "win".

17. Thanks.
I know you didn't, and it's the theatre of the absurd. Usually, I have a wicked sense of humor, but this left the Dems in SC(an endangered species, I might add) disenfranchised when it came to the Senate. There was no way I could vote for either one of them, and Vic Rawl was a good candidate.

I think Greene has been, and is being, manipulated, which I find sad and cruel, considering his obvious problems, and I agree this might be a continuation of the "game".

Oh, well, I'll be moving to Va soon and get to face a whole new set of repuke dirty tricks. How lucky can one person get?

12. Please, no more deluded space cases in the White House
It'll take decades to fix the damage caused by the Alzheimer's-ailing Reagan and drunken idiot fratboy GW Bush*. On a more telling note, does he think that a black man with less-than-pristine credentials is going to taken seriously as a candidate? I think not.
