The ongoing struggle against the horrors of Mountaintop Removal, a coal extraction process that's sickening and killing whole swaths of Appalachian communities, got a big boost today when my dear friend, colleague and comrade Bo Webb received the Purpose Prize, an award for people over sixty who have made a difference in "encore" careers.
One Man's Struggle To Save His HomeIf you don't know about the human rights nightmare taking place in Appalachia, perpetrated by some of this country's most egregiously right-wing corporations, you owe it to yourself to learn. For millions of Americans, what's happening here will have downstream effects of which they're not even aware. Sickness, gross disease, agony and grim death are all handmaiden to this human rights disaster. I'll be happy to answer any questions on this thread, should you have them.
To stand up to multi-billion-dollar right-wing coal companies and neither blink nor flinch takes courage most of us don't have. Bo Webb does. Read his story and take inspiration from it.
It's grassroots activism like Bo Webb's that will change this country.
