Cat blamed for starting fire with toaster oven
isn't this really the dog's fault?

Cat blamed for starting fire with toaster oven

Associated Press November 9, 2010

Investigators believe a cat who liked to sleep on top of a toaster oven started a kitchen fire in Port Townsend by depressing the toaster lever. Lois Lund told The Peninsula Daily News she doesn't hold a grudge against her cat Osiris. Lund said he had been sleeping on top of the oven to avoid a pet dog and probably stepped on the lever.

Lund heard the fire early Sunday and put it out with a garden hose.

Fire investigator Kurt Steinbach said the fire originated in the oven that had been left on.

The cat escaped, and no one was hurt in the fire.

1. Glad the cat got out alive.
My dog is a Marley wannabee and while she hasn't started a fire yet, she did manage to destroy all the drywall in my laundry room.

2. My cats disabled my answering machine all the time, but they never started fires
whew!

The phone was on their path to the greenhouse window and they always stepped on it:)

6. My cat just turns off my radio alarm. He's done it three times already this year.
Just ask my boss.

3. Dogs and drywall - what's the fascination?
My greyhound bitch chewed not 1, not 2, but 3 holes in drywall. Husband said if she did it a 4th time she was gone. I told him if she did it a 4th time and he tried to get rid of her, I'd get rid of him. My dogs also manage on almost a daily basis to step on the remote for the tv and change the channel. Husband gets all bent out of shape. I simply point out to him that if he didn't leave the remote on the couch when he gets up, they wouldn't step on it. There is an end table right next to the couch - hench the term "end table" - that he could put it on, but nooooo, he had to leave it on the couch. Frequently I prefer what they've changed the channel to, to what my husband is watching.

4. The cure I found that seemed to work
is to mist the "interesting wall" with water and then dust it with ground red pepper. It worked for me and haven't had a problem since. No suggestions at all on the remote, but I did get a grin out of the story.

5. My dogs also have better taste in TV programming than my husband.
:hi:

I had an elkhound who loved drywall. Maybe it's a hound thing.
