It's a time tax only it's hitting regular people and not the wealthy who have paid less for 30 years putting us into this mess and handing the burden off to everyone who can't afford it. Time = Money, just ask any Lawyer and numerous other occupations that charge for time. Most people VALUE time more than money so by taxing peoples time we are taxing them in the worst way.

On Edit: originalpckelly made the point below that making people work years longer also means they will pay more in taxes as they are working years longer. So it's also causing older people to have to pay more taxes not just putting in more time. A double whammy!

Obviously demographics that tend to have shorter lifespans, ceteris paribus, get less out of SS for what they put in. Not saying we should change the eligibility age based on gender and race, but it's a necessary component of an age based system like SS. Fwiw, I can retire (full) at 55 so I feel for people who have to wait until 67. That's a long time.

14. There's an important factor to consider when raising the retirement age

which highlights how callous the idea is. Consider those whose jobs are manual labor, factoring in that the human body starts breaking down after the age of 50.

Can you imagine lifting heavy objects, doing construction work, etc., until the age of 70? If senior citizens are no longer able to perform the work, would they be able to walk (or wheel their wheelchair) into an employment office & get a job that would pay a living wage? Would they get hired at all?
