1. Has the report been released?
I've been very busy for the last week or so. What did I miss?

3. Yeah, it's a report from the Chairmen, but not their final recommendations. nt

2. There's no way he would sign it. It guts his own healthcare bill, among many other things.
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 07:26 PM by BzaDem
He won't support something that isn't supported by 14/18 members on the commission.

4. It is more than not signing it, he should state in no uncertain terms he is against these proposals

6. He's likely going to wait for an actual commission report before he takes an official position.
There are some things in the chairman's mark that are good (such as raising the SS tax cap), so he is not going to disavow this hypothetical package as a whole. No reason to until the real package comes out.

17. Excellent point.
It's called the bully pulpit. Someone should inform Obama of this.

11. Your link proves my point. In 2037, SS will have to cut benefits by 25% unless the cap is raised.

16. Would it be cynical of me to think
that whether or not he signs it depends on how close we are to November 2012 when it gets on his desk?

9. If he doesn't realize that this will cause a revolution within the Democratic party, and speaks
against it immediately, then other people will.

Remember when Kerry ignored the swift pukes charges for a few weeks? He was never able to regain his footing after that

10. Even before this report there have already been plenty of reasons to warrant a primary challenger
We need a true liberal and progressive to challenge him to either win outright or to pull away from the center-right region where Obama currently resides.

14. True. Coming out strong against the debt commission report would be one reason not to primary
At this point he should be looking for those.

12. If he supports Austerity, than no one with a brain would vote for him
Austerity is economic suicide. It is also very likely political suicide, at least for the portion of the democratic party that isn't absolutely stupid.

... or something... by some unknown, invisible mechanism...
