Politics: Will the Pugs rally around the Commission?
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 07:31 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The Dems will be unable/unwilling to back the commission.

Will the pugs get the scent and back it just to be on the other side? (Painting Dems as the pro-deficit Party, etc.)

I think the thing will be too perilous for anyone to get behind it, but one never knows.

(One of those things you vote for only when you are sure the vote will fail.)

1. I'm more concerned about whether Obama will fall for the Commission. (n/t)

3. I didn't want to make the OP too inflammable, but...
I think that if he had a free hand Obama would like to back it, but will be unable to. Would provoke intra-party riots, not mere discontent.

6. I don't think Obama would back it. It completely guts his own healthcare bill that he spent a year
trying to enact.

It also completely guts Medicare.

It does both of these things by limiting healthcare expenses to grow at GDP growth + 1%, as opposed to medical inflation (which is much higher). This dramatically reduces the amount of the subsidies, and the amount Medicare will cover. There's no reason he would want to sign a bill gutting both Medicare and the bill he worked so hard to enact.

The commission requires agreement of 14/18 members for a reason.

4.  Are You worried that the commission gave an answer different than Obama WANTED?
Don't worry it was clear from the start that these would be the 'recommendations'.

7. The commission didn't give an answer. 2 members did. And on top of that, Obama certainly did not
work so hard to enact a healthcare bill only to sign a bill gutting his own healthcare bill a year later.

15. Obama did not work hare to enact a healthcare bill. He sat by while the congress gave us a
HEALTH INSURANCE giveaway.

The thought of working to fucking 70 to "enjoy" reduced benefits depresses the hell out of me.

5. Nope
they run away from it too. It was only made for the corporatist. It is their wet dream. Naomi Klein nail it.

8. No, they will push for even more.
The war is being surrendered at this very moment. At this moment, the silence of the Obama administration is squandering every opportunity to undo the damage of creating this austerity commission. The Republicans didn't create, Obama did. I am horrified.

16. We need to MAKE it too perilous to back this cr@p.
We need to ge out and protest at our nearest Federal Building or Social Securiy office. Why wait? We can save everyone a lot of time.
