FDA Wants Your Input on Cigarette Warnings
Weds, 10 Nov 2010

Federal regulators are testing the waters with the first proposed changes to cigarette packaging and advertisements in more than 25 years—bold health warnings with color images that show the tragic consequences of smoking. FDA is asking for public feedback on the images and the new, more pointed warnings.

Where to See the Warnings and Where to Comment

To view the warning labels, go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fdaphotos/

To submit comments on the warning labels and the proposed rule—between Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, through Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011:

Go to www.regulations.gov and insert docket number FDA-2010-N-0568 into the “search” box and follow the prompts.
Send a fax, with your comments, to 301-827-6870.
Mail/Hand delivery/Courier (for paper, disk, or CD-ROM submissions) to the Division of Dockets Management (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, Room 1061, Rockville, MD 20852.
All comments should be identified by Docket ID No. FDA-2010-N-0568. It is only necessary to send one set of comments.

This article appears on FDA's Consumer Updates page6, which features the latest on all FDA-regulated products.

1. I suggest
"It's a dumb habit, exceptionally unappealing, and if you invested the money you wasted on cigarettes you would be much better off. Oh, and the smoke smells too"

(note: I am AGAINST blanket cigarette bans, such that bars etc. can't make their own choice to allow or disallow smoking. But I loathe cigarettes)
