Research help needed...
Veterans Day is coming up, and I'm trying to figure out what percentage of the population are veterans in various countries. My guess is that the US has a larger percentage than most other countries. My political agenda is that the US is an Empire and has more veterans because of that fact.

Problems abound with this research. I want to exclude WWII vets, since they skew the stats. Germany has a requirement that young men serve 6 months in either the military or civilian. I don't count that as military service.

Any help out there? I've hit Google pretty hard, and come up dry.
