We all try to do our part. I try to do my part with my music. Please listen.
I actually consider it a labor of love.

I've been working on this project since 2005 and I have finally completed it and it is now out in digital form. It's called The Parable. It's about a time in the not so distant future when the US is taken over by a frighteningly brutal theocracy. Events then transpire that bring about the "2nd Coming." That's all I'll say for now. I wrote it out of frustration as a newly re-elected Bush took office, and finally mastered it in December of 2008. As I said, it was a labor of love. If I had to describe it, I would call it a concept album heavily inspired by Peter Gabriel, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Firesign Theater, Pink Floyd, and a million other artists. There's something for everybody!

I know the tendency is to ignore independent music, especially when there are so many other things to consider, but I sure would appreciate it if you, my friends here at DU, would take a few to listen to the entire piece (it clocks in at only 21:08) or at least one of the single tracks. Simply go to my REVERBNATION site:

http://www.reverbnation.com/mikegriffith

and choose "the Parable: Side 1" and "The Parable: Side 2." Please also check out the expanded bio page there for the album credits, and if you want to understand the story, the accompanying artwork and text can be found in this post below.

For those of you who might be interested, it will be made available for sale soon at Amazon, CD Baby, I tunes, and Rhapsody, and I will post appropriately when it is released. For now, it's available to stream for free in its entirety, and there are 2 songs you can download!

SO PLEASE DU, listen, Kick & Rec, share, comment, etc if you like the tracks and help me get the word out. If you don't like the music, you can tell me that too. :hi::hi:

This grateful independent musician and DU member since 2005 thanks you for help in supporting independent music!

THE PARABLE

Random, they were: a bakery in Omaha, a restaurant in Fresno, a school in Richmond, a grocery store in Dekalb, a library in South Bend, an office building in Houston, a theater in Anchorage, a gas station in Bangor, several private homes in Des Moines, Atlanta, Orlando, Seattle and Milwaukee. It happened in one weekend all over the country, and with no pattern. There were 572 in all.

The usual panic ensued, the usual suspects became scapegoats, and the next campaign hinged on security, values, and faith.

The election was a landslide.

"By 2PM, we started to notice there were black SUVs with tinted glass on every corner. By 6PM, it was made clear that everyone was to be off the streets. By 7PM, the silence was broken only by the sound of gun fire. By 8PM, it was the distant sirens. By 10PM, we could hear the loudspeakers. By midnight, everything was different."

"Thomas Jefferson was a devout Christian who never swayed from the unfailing word of the Gospel. Like all of our founding fathers, he knew that the only path to liberty and prosperity for America was to ensure the blessings of a just and loving God upon our land. Thomas Jefferson died on July 4th, 1826."

June 23, 2038

The "Women's Protection Act" passes unanimously in both the House and Senate. With a stroke of the President's pen, women find themselves "liberated" from the burden of voting, employment, property, and spinsterhood. The law ushers in what becomes known as the "New Feminism."

The 2038 "Thanksgiving Talks" between the US and the European Union break down as the EU votes unanimously to sever ties with the increasingly theocratic Super Power. The American press balks, calling the EU "Minions of the Devil" and "Carriers of Sin." By Christmas of that year, the case for war against Europe is being sold as "The New Crusade" and "A Blessing on the New Spirit of American Enterprise." Alarmed at the bellicose rhetoric coming from their adjunct neighbor, both Canada and Mexico quickly close their borders. In January of 2039, several mysterious explosions take place in the Chunnel. 172 people are killed.

And of course, there were questions.

"And Lo, did the answer come from on High, but they did not like the answer for there was no reward....."

"...so they did what they had always done since long before their time; they destroyed that which they didn't understand."

"Look Yon! He is risen as before!"

"But wait...Where is he going?"

"What God has made, Man hath torn asunder."

"There goes the Sun."
