Kindergarten teacher arrested in raid
Woman, boyfriend are accused of operating pill mill, printing cash

<snip>

"A 25-year-old kindergarten teacher and her boyfriend are facing charges after Palm Bay police raided their apartment and found counterfeit money and an illegal prescription pill operation, officials said.

Ashlee Denielle Webb, a first-year instructor at Westside Elementary, was charged Wednesday with counterfeiting, trafficking in controlled substances, possession of controlled substances and other charges after police executed a search warrant at her residence on Pinewood Drive.

Her boyfriend, identified by police as Curtis Phillip Gallagher, 31, faces similar charges.

"It's always unfortunate when we hear that someone who has been entrusted to teach our children takes an unfortunate path," school district spokeswoman Christine Davis said."

1. Not much of a teacher, it would appear:

>>>>>Brevard Public Schools officials placed Webb, an annual contract teacher who makes $31,600 a year, on administrative leave with pay.

Webb began working for the school district in January as a short-term instructor before taking on a kindergarten class of 18 students at Westside, officials said. >>>>>

More like a .... temp?

I wonder who she replaced and how much Brevard saved by hiring Ms. Webb?

2. Really? She sounds like a criminal, but being hired in the middle of the year
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 06:28 AM by RayOfHope
doesn't mean one is not much of a teacher. How do you come to that conclusion, other than her age?

There is always a need for long term subs (what the article refers to as a short term instructor) for someone on maternity leave or someone who has had medical issues and needs to be gone a few weeks. Also, teachers occasionally need to move before a school year is up due to a spouse/significant other getting transferred for employment or again, health issues necessitate they can't work anymore. Thank goodness there are some quality teachers that can fill in in these instances.
