Students busted for cheating

What I find disturbing is the number of students the professor caught. The reporter states that the news of the bust is mixed. Apparently some kids feel that the professor is going on a with hunt. I actually choked on my coffee when I heard that. I am in my early 30's. When I was in school getting caught cheating was an embarrassment. I just do not get it.

11. My Son Is A Student In This Class

Yesterday afternoon, after taking the make-up test the local press was at the testing lab exit door. A reporter walked up to him and asked "Are you a student or a cheater?" He is absolutely furious that his fellow students gave UCF and his Sr. Year Business Class such a black eye. No one thinks about the other 400 kids that didn't cheat.

Especially on camera.In the video the professor said that many of the students that cheated sent him an e-mail confession. I do feel sorry for the kids that did not cheat. I wonder what impact this will have on all of them when they go out to look for jobs. Just sad all the way around.

3. Cheaters are the same as thieves

Their goal is to get something unfairly, just like a thief. I hate thieves and I wish there was death penalty for thieves who are repeat offenders. I see them as despicable as murderers. By the same token, repeat cheaters should be dealt with very harshly.
They should be kicked out of school and banned from ever attending college again. Cheaters are liars. They cannot be trusted, and anyone who cannot be trusted should be ousted.

4. OK, but the witch-hunt guy was right and wrong...

A lot of people DO cheat in college AND in everyday life and they get away with it AND in many cases are encouraged and rewarded for doing so. There are great fundamental points to be made there...

BUT

cheating IS wrong and the Professor is right in is efforts to instill this in his students and it is wrong to get on his case and over the line to call it a witch-hunt.

The most telling part of this video are the hosts' reactions to that statement. Basically agreeing with him but taking umbrage that he stated it so openly. That is the crux of the issue: People and especially kids growing-up are not stupid. They can see that they are taught one way and then they see "grown-ups" get away with lying, cheating and stealing, and getting bailouts if you REALLY fuck up.

We need people like this professor in government.

to instill that value in a person. In my experience, most people don't cheat, or at least not as a matter of course.

Look at Wall Street. They got there by gaming the system. Nobody makes money by being a nice girl or guy.

And also, very few people see college as a place to learn. Most people forget what they learn in classes after they finish them. They're just paying for a degree so that they can get a job and make money. Therefore, tests just seem like another brick in the way of getting this degree, and that's why everybody thinks it's acceptible to game the system.

I agree with the second kid. I don't cheat on anything myself, but alot of people think this way.

Is probably one of the reasons Wall Street is a mess. It says something about our society when some kids believe that they should get a degree without putting in the work.

You can't thieve, lie, and steal forever and expect to get away with it. If I had been the professor, I wouldn't have even offered the amnesty.
