My problem with extending the rich tax cuts is not economic or moral
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 09:10 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
My problem with the idea of acquiescing on extending the whole Bush tax cut is what it says about our political options and thinking.

Extending the upper end of the tax cuts would not have a huge effect on the economy one way or another. But why would anyone walk away from such a sweet political opportunity? At some point you have to demagogue something... get populist... rouse some rabble. An unwillingness to play this issue hard for whatever it's worth suggests an unwillingness to make waves.

(I recognize that Senate Dems would back-stab any attempt to play this hard but that will be the case with every issue.)

As Milhouse once said about Lisa Simpson, "When she sees I do everything she tells me to then she's bound to respect me!"
