Presidential panel calls for freezing military pay, housing allowances

A presidential commission on reducing the deficit has recommended freezing basic military pay and housing allowances for three years starting in 2011, according to a draft report of the commission’s recommendations posted online Wednesday.

I think the approach to DoD should be: "We'll let you keep 80% of your existing budget, but only if you dedicate a larger share of it to your personnel, e.g., pay/benefits/housing, etc."

I am SO sick of hearing the "support our troops" meme when that's exactly what we DON'T do.

4. Retirement benefits aren't sustainable according to another commission

It is all talk. All bullshit. Politicians in DC and the Pentagon will be tripping over each other to make sure the pay and retirement cuts never ever happen let alone put it on the table for discussion.

Never trust the Army/Navy Times for your info. We have always referred to them as the National Enquirer.
