Three simple acts to balance the budget
End the wars and cut defense spending by 75%

Scrap the health insurance bailout and institute single payer. Pay for it with taxes roughly equivalent to what we now pay the insurance companies. Tax heaviest at the upper end.

Eliminate the FICA cap. (Even though SS is NOT part of the budget. This one is designed to get the tax cutters/benefit gutters to shut the fuck up)

1. We must reject this premise!
There aren't enough good jobs to go around. People are suffering. We *need* for the budget to be in deficit right now. The economy *needs* the surplus government demand.

2. Agreed...
although taxes equivalent to insurance payments would over fund single payer.:bounce:

3. The FICA cap is a load of shit. The net FICA tax on top earners is a drop in the bucket.
That's probably the most regressive tax we have. If it is going to be a flat rate, make it a REAL flat rate - regardless of how much you earn.

4. Might tick off the rich, who will then accuse us of taking welfare!

6. A couple of other suggestions
Eliminate corporate tax loopholes.

Raise the base tax rate on the rich

Eliminate the legal and tax loopholes that allow the rich to stash their money overseas and not pay taxes on it.

Put the cost of the occupations back on the books.

8. Mine would be a drop in the bucket, but...
The Congressional millionaires should be paid 50 percent of the Federal minimum wage. Regular people would be paid the current salary, but wealthy people would only get the bare minimum for pay.
