8. You Bet! My father was a WWII Marine who served in three

major battles in the Pacific:

The Battle of Cape Gloucester
The Battle of Peleliu
The Battle of Okinawa

He never was the same after he returned (I learned that from my grandmother) which is one reason I hate war so much.

But today is a day to honor our Veterans and I do.

12. Yes, my father was a navy man in the pacific..

I don't know the names of the battles he fought in but his ship was the U.S. Montrose and it was hit by kamakazi bombs..

My sweet Dad came home with "battle fatigue" or whatever they called it then..He was standing next to a friend when he saw the man's head blown off.

He helped start a union in the early forties and was active in his union all of his working life.

He was a great patriotic, FDR Yellow Dog Democrat.

He despised Reagan...would have gone BALLISTIC over Bush....and would be absolutely APPALLED at the "conservative" state of our nation now.

10. In a Senior moment I forgot to display the flag this morning when leaving for work.

I was reminded by NPR it was Veterans Day, so I turned around and went back home and put my flag up.

A big THANK YOU to our veterans who risk it all. Hopefully you'll all be home soon.

11. To the DU veterans, thank you for your service. I am grateful

to all the men and women who have served our country. This includes both of my parents. Mom served 5-1/2 years in the WACs during WWII and Dad served 23 years, both in WWII, Korea and beyond. And my uncle James, who I never met, was killed in action in Northern Italy a few days before his 22nd birthday. May they all rest in peace.

Many thanks to the First Special Service Force veterans, here and in Canada, both living and dead, (including my Dad)
who served in some of the toughest battles of WWII.
