Creating a public health insurance option — perhaps the most contentious idea of last year’s health overhaul debate — is among the possible solutions for reducing federal spending outlined in today’s debt commission report.

73. POption -- One of the good ideas in the Draft. Obama deserves credit for tackling this issue.

We need to do something about our financial condition. No other Prez has tackled this, and for good reason -- people go ballistic without even reading/considering options.

I think it is time to begin the discussion. No the Draft report is not the final answer, but it is a start that indicates where changes could be made and their impact.

We can call it the "catfood commission" -- and I think that is funny. But, as someone going on SS in a very few years, I think if we put ourselves on a solid financial foot, we'll all be better off -- even if I have to take a small cut (which is what is in the Draft while giving those on the lower end of the benefits scale an increase). I'd like to look at the options and begin a serious debate.

Otherwise, we'll all be eating catfood (or Soylent Green) at some point.

into our system.

Best example-- war profiteering via the Cheney Plan rolled out since he was Secretary of Defense and then went on to be CEO of Halliburton and then back again to be VP and start a giant war.

36. Even eliminating those convicted of fraud would save money.
Going after ACORN may be like shooting fish in a barrel lately -- but jumpy lawmakers used a bazooka to do it last week and may have blown up some of their longtime allies in the process.

The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to "any organization" that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.

In other words, the bill could plausibly defund the entire military-industrial complex. Whoops.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) picked up on the legislative overreach and asked the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) to sift through its database to find which contractors might be caught in the ACORN net.

Lockheed Martin and Northrop Gumman both popped up quickly, with 20 fraud cases between them, and the longer list is a Who's Who of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors.

'official' one.

Tax the Rich....that's what I think. Tax the fucking rich....and start at $100,000 not $250,000 annual salaries.

And those people who are pulling in this kind of cash PLUS Social Security don't get their damn SS. It's a damn Insurance Fund....you don't demand your insurance premiums back after you sell the car/house you've had insured, do ya?

Be fucking glad you don't NEED the damn SS.

That's what I really think. I'm tired a greedy people who make over $100,000/year. And if you got yourself into debt and outspent your income....go look in the fucking mirror. Cuz that is who is to blame.

LIVE WITHIN ONE'S MEANS. What is so fucking hard about that??? Doesn't fit 'the GROWTH/Madison Ave. Paradigm?'

Fuck the Joneses.
