Stolen Alameda dog reunited with owner
Stolen Alameda dog reunited with owner
Henry K. Lee, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, November 11, 2010

(11-11) 08:01 PST ALAMEDA --

Deuce, the pilfered pooch from Alameda, has been returned to his owner, police said today.

On Wednesday night, a Stockton woman who had bought the Yorkshire terrier for $20 on the street saw a news report and realized that the dog had been stolen from 80-year-old Helen Bignone on Oct. 30, said Alameda police Lt. Sean Lynch.

"There's so many good people in the world," Bignone said today. "I'm on top of the world. Life is good, and people are wonderful."

The tipster, whose name wasn't released, had purchased the 6-year-old male dog from a man and woman on the street several days after the robbery, an incident that generated outrage and a reward for the animal's safe return, Lynch said.

Alameda police detectives and Stockton animal control officers scanned the dog and confirmed his identity via his microchip, Lynch said.

9. Microchip!!! That's how the lil pup got back home.
It's really not expensive and helps you prove it's your pup. I had a lil pomeranian for 16 years. She was so friendly I was always afraind someone would take her and I wouldn't be able to prove she was mine. Got her chipped in 1997. It's a wee lil thing the size of a piece of rice, just under the skin between the shoulder blades. I highly recommend for all pets.

18. Thanks for posting this follow-up. I'm even more impressed that
the couple were young - gives me hope in this ugly world. The fact that they knew they had a valuable dog for just $20, yet they gave it back to it's owner is even more heartwarming. I love this couple and their children. A very nice story indeed.

5. Stealing an elderly woman's doggie companion
If there is a hell, I'm hoping for a special, very miserable part of it to be reserved for these two.

6. This makes me even more furious than the original theft:
A suspect in the case, Christopher Perkins, 19, told police that he let the dog go free in a Stockton park on Nov. 2, Lynch said.

First they steal the dog, then they let it go in the park, all by itself, with no protection, no way to find its home or any safety. It was jsut luck it wasn't killed. A tiny thing like that is easy prey for any sort of predator. Why steal the dog in the first place--other than to be mean a**holes!

10. I can't express how relieved and happy I am over this story.
I read the first thread about the theft of the sweet little doggie and feared the worst: bait for a dog-fighting ring.

So, so glad to have my worst fears proven wrong.

So happy the pack of two is complete again....

19. Always nice when this happens,
A quarter century ago I had a pit bull/great dane mix that I absolutely loved. I let him out in the fenced back yard one afternoon and then took a nap. At some point within that hour time period, somebody somehow got him out of the back yard without waking me or setting off my dog (I suspect it was drugged meat or some such). I was frantic for two weeks looking everywhere for him. One morning I heard a scratching on the front door and there he was! Wearing a chest harness and trailing a length of chain that he had busted off to get free. I was so happy to see him.

Nice that this lady got her pup back, there are assholes who steal dogs almost everywhere in this country, either to resell or sell to labs.
