The GOP and what's left of the blue dogs will own this.

17. What do you suppose he means when he says he is willing to compromise
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 05:07 PM by Winterblues
on the tax cuts for the wealthy? He said, and I heard him with my own ears, that to insure that the middle class tax cuts don't get hung up he was willing to compromise on the cuts for the wealthy...What does that mean to you? The way they are spinning it now is that he meant they won't allow them to be made permanent but they will still allow them to be extended....

5. He has a veto pen
doesn't he?
You are basically saying that having the Presidency means nothing.

7. Wanna bet?
He'll still get blamed, regardless. If he doesn't cave, and the deficit goes down, they'll find something else to bash him with. Get with the program, will ya. Everything that goes wrong will be his fault. He will get credit for nothing he does right. Just like it was with Clinton.

8. Strangely enough, a president gets most of the blame or credit for stuff. That's SOP.

and he signs it, it's his. That's just the way it works. You know Bill Clinton? NAFTA.

10. Sorrry, Obama will own this. Revisionist history will only leave you crying
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 04:07 PM by Catherina
Revisionist history will only leave you with an unbelievable "what happened" in 2012. And if you won't listen now, don't even look for disgusted voters like me to explan it to you. We'll have moved on.

Obama owns this.

The Democratic Party owns this.

Now fucking fix this before it's too late.

11. No. Obama will own this.
All he has to do is say no. There will not enough votes to over ride a presidential veto.

14. They will definitely blame Obama for the deficit rising
This whole tax thing is a trap for Obama. They will definitely blame him. No one will care about the "details".
The GOP rant will say: "Obama is a tax and spend liberal who ran up the deficit. Look at the numbers!!"

15. Why can't the President just shut up and let the
Congress extend both tax cuts then veto the cuts for the rich. Wouldn't that extend the tax cuts for people under $200,000 and the Republicans wouldn't be able to get the votes to override his veto.

16. Right...... we know the GOP won't blame him at all....
Hell even I will blame him and he will deserve every bit of it...IMO If he allows the wealthy to keep those tax cuts and endanger our nation by promoting Huge Debt and Deficits I will certainly blame him....

18. The problem is, he doesn't want to be pinned with letting taxes on the poor & lower mid class go up.
If it wasn't for that, it would be very easy to let them all expire. But here you have an American public all ready (and bizarrely) convinced that Obama has raised their taxes 20 times since he took office. The only thing that could make that perception worse is taxes ACTUALLY going up for everyone under Obama, while still in the middle of a jobs recession nonetheless.
